A 65-year old person, Adebayo Akinrinlade, was recently charged to court for practically beating his tenant, Uche Jordan to death.
Akinrinlade was arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrate Judge in Lagos.
The person who lives at No. 40, Church Road, Aboru, Iyana-Ipaja, is facing a one-count charge of unlawful beating, leading to death.

The Prosecutor, Chidi Okoye, said that the accused committed the offence on April 1, at No. 40, Church Street, Aboru, Iyana-Ipaja.
“The late Michael, who was a tenant in Akinrinlade’s compound, had a tussle with his landlord over a broken pipe from his toilet, which was leaking. A naming ceremony of the accused’s grandson was going on directly at the back of late Michael’s toilet and he had earlier been warned not to flush, in other not to disturb the ceremony.
“The late Michael flushed the toilet during the naming ceremony, causing a leakage and disrupting the ceremony, which angered the accused and his son.
“Michael was summoned and accosted by the accused and other thugs, who were invited to deal with the deceased for breaching his landlord’s order and disturbing the ceremony.
The prosecutor explained that the offence contravenes Section 223(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. However, the accused, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Chief Magistrate, A.O. Awogboro, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties in like sum. He adjourned further hearing in the matter till January 13, 2014.“Michael was hit on the head with a stick by the accused and he slumped and became unconscious, after which he was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead,’’ Mr. Okoye, a police inspector, said.
