The
Olugbo of Ugboland and Chairman of the Yoruba Obas Conflict Resolution
Committee, Oba Frederick Akinruntan, has urged the Federal Government to
utilize the window offered by the National Conference to create a
constitutional role for traditional rulers in the country. Talking with journalists in Ugbo, Akinrutan said traditional rulers were always used and dumped by politicians.

He said, “The National Conference is a very good development. It is good so it has been agreed that the people must talk. When the President announced it, I was happy. But it will depend on people who is likely to be mixed up in handling of the conference.”
Asked
if it could be required for the decisions reached at the conference to
be ratified by the National Assembly, he explained,
“It will depend on what the Federal Government decides. What matters is if we are able to achieve our goal.
“It could go to the National Assembly, it might not, but if by the end of the day the goals put down by the conference are achieved, it wouldn't need approving authority.”
