Leader of Rivers House of Assembly, Hon Chidi Llyod, was on Wednesday arraigned before Justice L. L Nyordee of the Port-Harcourt high court. He was brought amidst a very tight security mounted by the anti-riot policemen drawn from the Rivers State Police Command.

He is facing a six-count charge of conspiracy to murder and assault, attempted murder and malicious damage arising from the fracas in the House of Assembly on 9 July. His arraignment provoked a heated argument between Worgu Boms, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Chika Dewingwe, SAN, representing the Nigeria Police.
Continue..Dewingwe argued that under the the Nigerian Constitution, the police have the power to prosecute the lawmaker since the case is a criminal case. Dewinigwe argued that the state Attorney-General cannot take over the case when the accused has not taken a plea whether guilty or not.
The case has been adjourned till August 6 for hearing. Reacting to the state of health of Lloyd, the House Deputy Speaker, Leyii Kwanee said the inability of Lloyd to walk on his feet was a confirmation of the alarm they had earlier raised that the man was being tortured to extract information from him.
