Fashola seeks technology to develop rail transport

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola says a mutual collaboration between Nigeria and any country with a reliable technology on rail transportation will guarantee long life span for roads across the country.
Fashola spoke at the Lagos House, Ikeja, during a courtesy visit by the Russian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Nickolay  Udovichenko.
He said Nigeria needed to take a lot of cargo off her highways in order to extend their lifespan.
The governor said since Russia had developed such technology, it was necessary that Nigeria showed interest in Russia to adopt the technology to take pressure off her roads.

He said, “The success of the Russian Railway and the expanse of development it has achieved over the years interest me. This is an area where Nigeria urgently needs to develop.”
Fashola said the desire of Russia to collaborate with Lagos in cultural and business exchanges was welcome.
He said, “We are flexible as a government and we look for solutions and partnerships that benefit us. We will be ready to do business with Russian institutions in the course of our mutual tenures and beyond.”
On the ambassador’s invitation to St. Petersburg, the governor said he had read about the city’s history and rich tradition and would visit it with his team.
Earlier, the Russian Ambassador had expressed the desire to discuss bilateral and business relations with Lagos State.
He added that he would in turn strive to boost the political and economic relations already existing between Lagos and his country, especially in the area of education.
The ambassador, who said he had been in discussion with the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry,  said a business delegation from Russia would soon visit the country, especially Lagos.
He said, “I consider that Lagos is a very big city, the centre of business of this country. I am ready to work hard in order to improve our bilateral relationship.”
