The Film,Video, Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria(FVPMAN) has declared war against pirates in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The marketers have vowed never to rest until they stamp out the menace of piracy in the commercial city.
Confirming this development when contacted by HVP, the Chairman of the Onitsha branch of FVPMAN, Mr Godson Nwosu said, following the alarming rate at which its members are being forced out of business, no thanks to the illegal activities of the pirates, they are left with no choice than to clampdown on the enemies of their businesses.
According to him, the marketers recently carried out raids on the hide-outs of some of the pirates in Onitsha, in what they call, “operation flush out pirates” and carted away DVD worth millions of naira from the culprits. The raid, which he said led to the arrest and detention of two suspects started two weeks ago. He vowed that the exercise will not stop until they have brought their illegal activities to a standstill.
“We have lost millions of naira to the pirates who have taken over our businesses. As a result, we will not stop the fight against piracy until they have flushed them out.”FVPMAN boss said.
Calling on other chapters of the association across the country to follow their footsteps in order to save the industry from imminent collapse, FVPMAN boss however disclosed that there are plans to charge the suspects to court after the Police have concluded their investigation.
