I nominate "Iats" for the 2015 chutzpah Nobel prize

Unian reports:

Russia should pay for the restoration of Donetsk and Luhansk, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said on Sunday, according to Ukrainian online newspaper Ukrainska Pravda.

"As for the reconstruction of the Donbas - I think it is logical to put the question of reparations to the Russian Federation. They destroyed the Donbas, and Russia should pay for the restoration of Donetsk and Luhansk," Yatseniuk said.

"They [Russia] have destroyed our economy, they carried out a military intervention, a military aggression. And they should be held responsible for that," he said.

Venezuela Foils US-Sponsored Coup Attempt - Maduro

The foiled coup attempt was sponsored by the United States and directed from Washington, according to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced that authorities foiled a US-sponsored attempt to overthrow him.

Five military aviation officers were planning to carry out a violent attack against the presidential palace or another target. One of them was identified as General Hernandez, also known as el Oso (the Bear). The plot was directed from Washington, according to Maduro.

Poroshenko throws 800 people and thee battalion groups into battle to deblock the Debaltsevo cauldron and save himself

February 12, 2015
Shurygin
Translated by Kristina Rus

Kristina Rus: Now it becomes clear what Poroshenko was talking about on the phone in those early morning hours from Minsk. He was preparing a last ditch massive surprise attack to deblock the Debaltsevo cauldron, which he maintains "does not exist". He had hoped that by the end of the day he will be able to pull off a victory and say, look - I was right, there is no cauldron! But all those Ukrainian lives were lost in vain...

The useless agreement which everybody wanted

I have to say that I am both amused and appalled at the completely over-the-top reaction of most commentators to what we might as well call the Mink-2 Agreement (M2A).  Apparently, analysis has been abandoned altogether and has now been replaced with hyperbole and vociferous but empty statements.  Reading some of the comments made here one could be forgiven for thinking that somehow the war in the Ukraine was over and that the AngloZionist Empire, aided by Putin, Surkov and an anonymous but sinister army of Russian oligarchs, has just inflicted a terrible and final blow to the Novorussian dream.

What is going on here?  Has everybody just gone crazy?

The Minsk "Agreement"

by Alexander Mercouris

Already there is debate about who has "won" and who has "lost" in the Minsk talks.

The short answer is that as the German foreign minister Steinmeier correctly said there is no breakthrough but the Russians and the NAF have made progress.

One point needs to be explained or reiterated (since I have explained it already and many times).

Full text of the Minsk-2 agreement

According to the Financial Times, the following is based on a translation of the Russian document:

Complex of measures for the implementation of the Minsk agreement

1. Immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in certain areas in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine and strict implementation of it starting at 00.00, Kiev time, February 15th

Kiev, Donbas Reach Ceasefire Deal Ahead of Minsk Talks

The representatives of Kiev and the southeastern Ukrainian self-proclaimed republics have reached a preliminary agreement on ceasefire and arms withdrawal.  The government residence in the Voiskovsky Pereulok in Minsk, which hosts the meeting of the Ukraine-Russia-OSCE Trilateral Contact Group with representatives of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics in Minsk

War in Ukraine: Was Maidan supposed to pull Ukraine away from ... China?

The Great Silk Road

Ukrainian press is bewildered about the indecisiveness of President Yanukovych in foreign politics. Many months were spent on the preparations for the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU, and suddenly two weeks before he hit the brakes.

Protesters roam the streets looking to provoke clashes with authorities, and Yanukovych left for a visit with China. In Kiev there are clashes with protesters. Yanukovych, on the way back from China, met in Sochi with Russian President, and then flies to Malta... What does it all mean?

False Flag in Kramatorsk, Ukraine

As always before any important negotiation, the US backed junta has executed yet another false flag, this time by firing at the city of Kramatorsk.  For all the details, please click here for a full analysis in Russian and here for a machine translated version of the same article.  The bottom line is this: the missile strike came from a location to the southwest of Kramatorsk, at least 35 miles away from the closets Novorussian positions.

Cyprus, Russia and a geopolitics chess amateur

by Kakaouskia

It was with interest that I saw the Saker mentioning today that the government cabinet in Cyprus is actually considering granting Russia's "wish" for an air force base on the island.

Being a Cypriot, I would like to take this opportunity to provide a - very brief - history lesson for the community as well as some thoughts on the matter.

What is the Donbass fighting for?

by Edward Birov for Vzgliad

Translated by Gideon

“It is abundantly clear that the crisis will continue until such times as the Ukrainians achieve harmony between themselves and society, instead of being submerged in the roar of radicalism and nationalism, will unite around more positive values and reflect the true interests of the Ukraine”, – from an interview with Vladimir Putin.

Powerful writing by Kenyan Poet Shailja Patel

"Rape cartoons are funny if it's inconceivable to you that you could ever be raped. If you live in a bubble of gender privilege that insulates you from all consequences of rape culture
AIDS jokes are funny if you've never loved someone who died of AIDS. If you live in a bubble that allows you not to know that millions of Africans died, thousands of gay men died, of criminal state indifference and denialism. Because they were, after all, only blacks and queers. Comedy material, not lives worth grieving.

‪#‎CommentOfTheWeek‬ On "Who you think the US military is most likely to engage with next?"

Comment:
We are speaking about the epitome of Serial Rapist Paedophile Priests here ... they don't directly engage with adult sized victims.
And have got so cowardly now that it's all 4th Generational Warfare ... using proxy force terrorists. Like Al CIAda ISIS, Boko Haram, fascist neoNazi militia plus cannon fodder conscripts from mostly Galician states ... and Academic psycho's who wont whistle-blow on their Abu Ghraibs or commit suicide in an embarrassing rash of soul destroyed conscience ...

What's inside in the Debaltsevo cauldron? Why did the leaders of Europe rush to Russia?

Admittedly, when "the mousetrap" began to shut, everyone began to shout about the need... the need of what? Oh, about the need to follow the Minsk agreements..

The "Debaltsevo cauldron" was intended as a "Debaltsevo springboard" to start a victorious attack on DPR and LPR. In this regard, huge quantities of weapons, ammunition and food was brought to this area. This was confirmed by the militia after the capture of Uglegorsk. They got arsenals overflowing with weapons and warehouses with American food.

Rossiya Segodnya Outraged Over Economist Editor’s Call for Boycott

Rossiya Segodnya is outraged by The Economist editor's recent call to boycott employees of RT, as well as Sputnik radio.

International Information Agency Rossiya Segodnya is outraged by The Economist editor Edward Lucas' recent call to boycott employees of RT, as well as Sputnik radio.
Speaking at the panel discussion on Ukraine during the Munich Security Conference, The Economist's senior editor Edward Lucas called for a boycott of RT and Sputnik, a part of Rossiya Segodnya.

Kiev Unable to Provide Copies of Alleged Russian Soldiers' Passports

Ukraine failed to provide Moscow with copies of passports which were shown off by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko during his address at the Munich Security Conference.

Kiev has failed to provide Moscow with copies of documents, allegedly belonging to Russian servicemen fighting in Ukraine, a Russian foreign ministry official told RIA Novosti on Sunday.
Addressing the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko showed off covers of Russian passports and military IDs, claiming they prove "Russian presence” in the conflict-torn East Ukraine.

Listening to Lavrov in Munich !

I have to say that I personally don't recall anything quite like what happened today in Munich. For one thing, I detected a tone in Lavrov's words which I had not felt so strongly before. Of course, Lavrov was calm, composed and polite. But this time I also felt an immense sense of disgust on his part for the audience he was addressing and for what these so-called 'leaders' had done over the past decade. In essence Lavrov told them "Putin already explained everything to you in 2007 but you have not listened to a word he had to say - and now are you really happy with the result?". Then came the Q&A and things only got worse.

Quick update on Debaltsevo

Couple of things:

The evacuation of civilians basically failed. First, the buses got stuck and had to wait due to nearby mortar shelling, then only 3 buses (out of 20) were filled with refugees, nobody else wanted to leave and, considering the risks, I don't blame them.  This is a terrible thing to say, but not boarding these buses today was the prudent thing to do (today, the junta forces fired at refugees near Lugansk).

Now take a look at this map from militarymaps:
