Pope Francis Sends Letter to Residents of Beslan Who Mark 10 Years Since School Massacre





Pope Francis has written a letter to the residents of the town of Beslan in North Ossetia who are marking ten years since the Beslan school massacre, Italian media reported Monday.


Abbot Paolo De Carli, who sheltered 60 Beslan residents for two months at his monastery in the Trentino province in Italy in 2004, will take Pope Francis’s letter, the contents of which are not disclosed, to North Ossetia, the press service of the Honorary Consulate of the Russian Federation in Bolzano told RIA Novosti.

Poroshenko Wants Donetsk, Luhansk Republics to be Recognized as Terrorist Organizations




 Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko intends to raise the issue of recognizing the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics as terrorist organizations during his upcoming visit to the United States, the president’s press service said in a statement Monday.


“Petro Poroshenko and [US Senator] Robert Menendez discussed the visit of the Ukrainian President to the United States planned for the second part of September and the scheduled meetings with US executives. The Head of State intends to raise the issue of recognizing the so-called DPR and LPR terrorist organizations in the course of his visit to the United States,” the statement says.

UN Human Rights Council Says Islamic State Actions Amount to Crimes Against Humanity





The UN Human Rights Council on Monday condemned terrorist acts and systematic human rights abuses committed by the Islamic State (IS) group in Iraq, saying they amount to crimes against humanity.


The council, which convened for a special session in Geneva earlier in the day, said in its resolution that it “condemns in the strongest possible terms systematic violations and abuses of human rights and violations of international humanitarian law resulting from the terrorist acts committed by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant and associated groups, taking place since 10 June 2014 in several provinces of Iraq, which may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.”

Experts in the General Department of Logistics of Chinese People’s Liberation Army have agreed on the manufacturing approval of the first Ebola drug. The drug named "JK-05?, and has been developed by the Institute of Microbiology Epidemiology under Academy of Military Medical Sciences. It is the country’s first drug for the treatment of the deadly Ebola virus. (QNA)

Photos From a Fatal Accident Involving The University Of Ghana Bus



 15 people lost their lives on Sunday evening at about 6:30pm when a 207 Benz bus collided with an orange urvan on the Juaso-Konongo road in the Ashanti Region. Based on eyewitnesses who reported to us, the 207 Mercedes Benz overtook an automobile leading to the bus colliding with the urvan car. The accident was so severe it finished up causing more cars and buses to crash to the accident cars. These includeed a University of Ghana Institute of Statistical Bus. Fortunate enough, nobody died on the bus but many were injured and were rushed to the Konongo Hospital. Nearly all passengers that died were on the yellow urvan car. About 15 people have already been reported dead though not confirmed.

Ebola: Female doctor tests positive in PH





A lady doctor who was simply on admission at the Green Hart hospital where late Port Harcourt doctor, Iyke Enemoah, was treated after he got contaminated with the deadly virus by an ECOWAS official, has tested positive to Ebola.

Minister of Health, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu revealed this today September 1st in  a meeting of the National Emergency Council on Ebola outbreak in Nigeria

No Ebola Victim in Lagos Hotel - Health Authorities

There was no case of Ebola virus detected among lodgers in a Lagos popular resort, Beni Hotels, authorities in Lagos and Abuja disclosed yesterday.

Men of the Nigerian Police from the Area A Command, Lion Building, Ikoyi, Lagos State, and operatives of the Nigerian Immigration Service, had on Friday raided a hotel and a guest house on Lagos Island, arresting 39 foreign nationals over the Ebola Virus Disease scare.

Doctors fear Joan Rivers may end up in a wheelchair'



Doctors at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, yesterday Sunday August 31st started the procedure of bringing her out of her medically-induced coma, but fear she might be left as'a vegetable'or'needing a wheelchair' as they battle to truly save her life. The waking-up process can take until tomorrow Tuesday September 2nd.
"There is real concern that the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair,' a source close to the family said
"Rivers would not want to live unless she could enjoy 'a full and active life. ... (She) would never want to be a burden on anyone' another family friend said

Boko Haram invades Bama, meets resistance from Nigerian troops



Boko Haram militants this morning September 1st launched an attack on Bama, the largest city in Borno state with the aim of taking over the town. According to reports, the sect men arrived the town and started shooting mortars, RPGs and hurling grenades but they were fiercely resisted by Nigerian troops stationed in the village. According to Sahara Reporters, a fierce battle is currently going on there between the sect men and Nigerian troops.

UNILAG Chief Security Officer killed at beer parlour



The head of operations, Security Unit of the University of Lagos, Sunday Adejumo, was killed on Friday August 29th by suspected assassins at a beer parlor on Oyenuga street, behind St Finbarrs str., Akoka, Lagos.

Adejumo, 50, was drinking with some friends at a beer parlour called Daniel's Place when three men walked up to him, dragged him off his chair, stabbed him before they shot him dead. Continue...

I read the grave allegations made by an Australian by the name of Mr. Stephen Davis about those that he believes are behind Boko Haram. He made some very serious allegations, he mentioned names and I would be interested in seeing the hard evidence that he claims to have.
I have always said that I believe that anyone, no matter which political party that person belongs to and no matter how highly placed or powerful that person may be, that is involved with Boko Haram ought to be captured, caged, flogged and brought to justice because I regard such people as nothing but bloodthirsty beasts. Buhari To Declare Intention To Run For Presidency In 2015





Former military Head of State, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, is expected to declare for the presidential race early next month on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as soon as he concludes his nationwide consultations, his political aides have confirmed to Thisday.
“General Muhammadu Buhari has been holding consultations with stakeholders cutting across the divide on the next year general election,” said one of his aides who craved anonymity.“
Those he has been meeting include politicians, both within and outside the APC, religious leaders, opinion leaders, youths and market women in every state of the federation and the feelers we are getting are encouraging.

Ukraine May Get Additional Loan of $1.3 billion After IMF Assessment



European Union will make a decision on providing an additional loan of up to $1.3 billion to Ukraine only after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) conducts another assessment of the state of its economy, a source close to EU leadership told RIA Novosti on Sunday.

“If the IMF considers that there are additional financing needs, we will then consider a possibility of an additional microfinancial program which could go up to one billion [euro],” said the source, adding that it is not clear yet, when this assessment will take place.

Poroshenko’s Statement That Ukraine Conflict Can End by September Far From Reality - DPR




The Kiev authorities’ statements that conflict in eastern Ukraine can be ended by September are idealistic and far from reality, Deputy Prime Minister of Donetsk People’s Republic Andrei Purgin said in an interview with RIA Novosti Saturday.


"Their statements are of Martian nature, these people are dwelling in an emerald garden on Mars and commenting on the situation, which has nothing to do with reality. In fact, all these comments are often made not for internal use but for external use, for Europe. Such claims hit the headlines, then the IMF allocates money, so their goal is to get money from the IMF," Purgin said.

Donetsk People’s Republic Says Controlling Most of MH17 Crash Site





The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) militia is controlling the most of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crash site, DPR Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Purgin said in an interview with RIA Novosti Saturday.

"For the most part, we are controlling [the crash site]. They [pieces of the wreckage] are just lying there, and the most amazing part is, as it turns out, that neither the European side, nor anyone else needs them. The situation is very strange in my opinion," Purgin said.

EU to Decide on New Sanctions Against Russia Within Week



The participants of the EU Summit have asked the European Commission to prepare proposals for new economic sanctions against Russia within one week, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Sunday.
“We said that should there be a further escalation as we had actually experienced, we may need to take additional decisions. We mandated the Commission to prepare the grounds for measures that can be taken and they have to decide on that within a week,” 
Angela Merkel told journalists after the special meeting of European Council.However, the decision on sanctions will not affect the trilateral gas talks between the European Union, Russia and Ukraine.
 “We will irrespective of that also address questions related to gas,” said Merkel, noticing that there has been progress on gas talks since the meeting in Minsk.

Russia Hands Over 63 Ukrainian Soldiers - Airborne Forces




Russia handed over to Ukraine 63 Ukrainian soldiers who have crossed the Russian border on August,27, the deputy commander of the Russian Airborne Forces, Major-General Aleksei Ragozin, said on Sunday.


“The relevant authorities have just handed over 63 Ukrainian military men, who have crossed the Russian border on August, 27,” Ragozin said, adding that the soldiers were accommodated in a temporary camp where they received all the assistance needed.
