53 Boko Haram members killed after daring attack on military base



The Nigerian military released a statement today stating they killed over 50 terrorists yesterday after a daring attack on a military base in Damboa, Borno state. See the statement signed by military spokesperson Major General Chris Olukolade below...


Over 50 terrorists died as troops repelled a daring attack on troops’ locations in Damboa, Borno State yesterday night.  The terrorists had stormed the troops’ bases and police locations while most of the troops were out on patrol of surrounding villages.

New Gaza rocket fires as Israel's Arabs join protests over teen murder



A new volley of rockets fired from Gaza territory into Israel on Saturday, hamstring Egyptian efforts to establish a renewed truce, after protests over a Palestinian teenager's murder spread to Arab-Israeli towns.

Israeli police reported clashes in three mainly Arab towns in the northeast and center of the country late Friday after the east Jerusalem funeral of the teenager, believed to have been abducted and murdered by Jewish troops.

Court Fixes Date on Ban of Hijab in Lagos Schools



The Muslim Student Association of Nigeria recently filed a suit against the Lagos State Government over the use of Hijab in primary and secondary schools.

Justice Modupe Onyeabo of a Lagos High Court in Ikeja, has set September 26 to deliver judgment on the case.

Human Rights lawyer assassinated in his home in Lagos



Human rights lawyer and social commentator, Barrister Kunle Fadipe (pictured above) was on July 3rd  murdered at his residence at Harmony Estate near Karaole Estate, College Road in Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos.
 
In accordance with reports, the estate where in fact the late barrister lived was plunged into total darkness after power outage and the lawyer asked his son to go and start the generator. As his son made his way to the generator, a person armed with a blade accosted him and ordered him to take him to his father. When the person surely got to Mr Fadipe, he stabbed him in the neck and back. His daughter who was in the home immediately ran out of the home and asked for help. Two security officials mounted on the estate immediately ran there and was able overpower the killer.Continue..

Emir Of Kano SLS Withdraws Lawsuit Against President Jonathan



Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the former Governor of Central Bank, who is now the Emir of Kano, has formally withdrawn his lawsuit challenging his removal as the governor of the Apex Bank.

Abubakar Mahmoud, his lawyer told the National Industrial Court that the Emir wishes to withdraw his case against President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and two other defendants in the suit.

Governor Fashola Condemns Military Rampage Today




Speaking with Channels TV this evening, Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola described today's action by the Nigerian Army as very disappointing, stating that they are public servants paid with tax payers money, so shouldn't behave in such a manner. He however said he's waiting for a formal report to know what really transpired.

National Museum Esie, The Oldest Museum in Nigeria



Esie Stone Image was the name of the oldest museum in Nigeria now it is called National Museum Esie. This museum was actually founded by a re-known hunter who is by name Baragbon. Cost of governance and part-time legislature



Public suspicion that the non-sovereign nature of the National Conference convened by President Goodluck Jonathan could end up as a mere talk shop, whose recommendations could be stifled or frustrated by the National Assembly (NASS) if not put to a referendum and made part of the nation’s Constitution, appears to be at the verge of becoming a reality. The wrath pouring from the recesses of some members of the NASS following the adoption by the National Conference on Wednesday June 4, of a recommendation put forward by its committee on public service that lawmakers at national and state levels should work on part-time basis, suggests that much.

Panic, as confab delegate suffers cardiac arrest



The ongoing National Conference was thrown into panic yesterday when a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, and delegate from Oyo State, Chief Niyi Akintola, had a cardiac arrest.

Akintola had been a vibrant member of the conference usually bringing his wealth of legal experience to guide the activities of the body. Inaugurated on March 17, the conference has been plagued with the death of three delegates, while some had fainted during proceedings.

Gov. Murtala Nyako loses Bid to Stop impeachment



GOVERNOR Murtala Nyako’s hopes of stalling his impeachment dimmed significantly yesterday as the Adamawa State High Court, Yola, dismissed his bid to stop the House of Assembly from continuing with the process until the determination of the substantive suit.


In his ruling, the state’s Acting Chief Judge, Justice Ambrose Mamadi, dismissed Nyako’s application on the ground that the lawmakers did not violate any part of section 188 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
He said the application was filed to pre-empt the action of the Adamawa House of Assembly on the allegations of gross misconduct made against the governor by the lawmakers.

Intangis has no business with Mainstreet Bank, AMCON insists




The Chief Executive Officer of Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON, Mr Mustapha Chike-Obi yesterday insisted that United States financial firm, Intangis Holdings has no deal with Mainstreet Bank
 A United State, US court has summoned representatives of Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON, a body set up to manage rescued banks in Nigeria, to appear before it in a dispute with U.S. financial firm, Intangis Holdings.
Intangis Holdings, an American financial and investment company filed the complaint for damages – tortuous interference with contract against AMCON – in the supreme court of the state of New York, alleging that AMCON ignored its right to buy one of the nationalised lenders.

National Conference: Northern delegates reject resolutions



Northern delegates have rejected the resolutions adopted yesterday by the National Conference saying some of the controversial issues approved were literarily lifted out of a document not prepared by a conference committee.

While considering the report on Political Restructuring and Forms of Government, the conference in a rowdy session resolved the delisting of local councils from the constitution and other contentious matters.
But immediately after the plenary ended around 3pm, the delegates, under the auspices of Northern Delegates Forum (NDF), met and agreed to reject the resolutions and that they must be rescinded.


2015: APC begins full reconciliation •As Amaechi visits Atiku




AHEAD the 2015 general election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced full reconciliation among its aggrieved members over its last month national congress, where its first elected national officers emerged.
The party, had immediately after its convention, set up a national reconciliation committee headed by the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, who was saddled with reconciling its aggrieved members to prevent them from defecting to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or any other political partiy as being threatened by majority of them.
