Biden issued his apologies in a phone call to General Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the agency wrote late Sunday evening.
According to WAM, the US Vice President stressed that he appreciates UAE's historic role in fighting extremism and terrorism, and commended the country's cooperation with the international community on strengthening stability in the region.
The sides noted their common commitment to combating terrorist organizations and emphasized the importance of international cooperation on the issue, the agency wrote.
On Thursday, speaking at the Harvard University, Joe Biden told students that US allies' financial support to militants in Syria and Iraq was a major problem for Washington.
The United Arab Emirates' Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Sunday, calling for the United States to clarify Biden's statements.
The Turkish government reacted to the speech as well, demanding an official apology. On Saturday, Biden made a phone call to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to apologize for his remarks.
