Ex-President Obasanjo has made history following his appointment as the first Chancellor of the Jigawa State University
Nigeria's former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has been appointed the Chancellor of the newly established Jigawa State University.
According to a press release from the office of state's Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Haruna Wakili, Obasanjo's appointment as the first chancellor of the university was approved by the state governor Sule Lamido.
Lamido had also sent a formal letter to the former president.
Continue....Wakili said Obasanjo's appointment was backed by Section 8 of Jigawa State University Law, 2013 and Section 2 of the second schedule of the law which vested the visitor of the university with the powers to appoint chancellor for the university. The commissioner added that Obasanjo was chosen for his contributions to making a modern Nigeria. Lamido served as Foreign minister of Nigeria, during Obsanjo's second tenure as a democratic President, from 1999 to 2003.
