“The United States, at least over the situation In Ukraine, base their public statements – I will not speak about real politics now – but their public statements they base on unverified facts, or on framing-up, when they show a crashed helicopter and it turns out that it happened not in Ukraine, but in Syria. And there is a lot of such facts, when the false data was used in order to make some public statements, to call for some steps,” Lavrov said.
According to Lavrov, “someone does it intentionally, others simply take some unverified facts from the Internet and try to gain favor by making fine comments.”
Lavrov reminded that “everyone remembers the episode” with Colin Powell and his evidence of Iraqi government possession of weapons of mass destruction, which were then presented at the UN Security Council, and later “it turned out that the CIA has simply tricked Powell.”
In February 2003, before the Iraq war started, US Secretary of State at that time, Colin Powell has presented evidence in the UN Security Council that was meant to prove that the President of Iraq (at that time), Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction. Powell assured that Iraq was hiding from 100 to 500 tons of toxic agents, was trying to receive materials to create a nuclear weapon and was working on the missile program. Apart from the other evidence, Powell presented satellite images of the alleged military plant, where the chemical weapons were supposed to be held.
It turned out that Powell’s presentation was nothing, but a huge misinformation, and that all presented evidence was false.
Later, Powell confessed that the speech was “one of my most momentous failures, the one with the widest-ranging impact.”
