OAU re-opens Aug 24




The authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State have announced the re-opening of the institution after its closure in June due to students’ protest. A release by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju, on Friday, stated that it will be officially re-opened on Sunday, August 24. It will be recalled that OAU was closed on Wednesday, June 18, over protests by its students against the increase in their school fees. Olanrewaju said, “Following the closure of the University on Wednesday, 18th June, 2014, the Senate of the University again reconvened on Friday, 15th August, 2014, to announce the re-opening of the University.

Students are expected to come into residence for the continuation of the 2013/2014 Harmattan semester while lectures commences on Monday, 25th August, 2014.
 “We enjoin the students to face their studies squarely and conduct themselves in manners that will not be capable of truncating the re-adjusted academic calendar, wishing them a safe trip back to their beautiful campus.” 

 OAU management had increased the charges of its newly admitted students from N37,150 and N42,150 to N 82,400, N92,700 and N95,700 (acceptance fee inclusive), depending on faculties. The charges of old students of the institution was also increased from N5,300, N7,800, N10, 300 and N12,800 per session to N19,700, N30,700 and N33,700 for different faculties respectively.
