A 20-year-old American race car driver has died after being struck by the car of three-time Nascar champion Tony Stewart during a local sprint race in New York. According to eyewitnesses, Stewart and Kevin Ward Jr, 20, had collided on a previous lap of the dirt track race on Saturday. Ward then climbed out of his car to show his displeasure and was on track confronting Stewart when he was suddenly struck and thrown into the air by Stewart's car.
. Meanwhile, Stewart was unhurt, and plans to race Sunday in the NASCAR event at Watkins Glen, his manager Greg Zipadelli said, calling it "business as usual." Ontario County Sheriff Philip Povero said his department's investigation is not criminal and that Stewart was "fully cooperative" and appeared "very upset" over what had happened. -
