Panic, as confab delegate suffers cardiac arrest

The ongoing National Conference was thrown into panic yesterday when a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, and delegate from Oyo State, Chief Niyi Akintola, had a cardiac arrest.

Akintola had been a vibrant member of the conference usually bringing his wealth of legal experience to guide the activities of the body. Inaugurated on March 17, the conference has been plagued with the death of three delegates, while some had fainted during proceedings.

Akintola, who hardly misses proceedings, was patiently listening to the contributions of other delegates to the report of the Committee on Political Restructuring and Forms of Government.

National Mirror sighted two nurses and some security operatives inside the chamber trying to move Akintola out. The development consequently drew the attention of other delegates.

While the nurses made frantic efforts to move him into a police ambulance, other delegates also tried to facilitate his easy transfer to the hospital. Unfortunately, some vehicles parked within the premises became an obstacle, blocking the ambulance.

Akintola was later moved into a car belonging to one of the delegates and driven at top speed to an undisclosed medical facility.
