The governors, namely Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State; Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State and former governor of Anambra State, Dr Chris Ngige, erstwhile governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni including former factional national chairman of PDP, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, Senator Babafemi Ojudu and Senator Sola Adeyeye ,joined Governor Rauf Aregbesola, to hold a closed -door meeting that lasted till the early morning of Thursday.
Nigerian Tribune reliably gathered that critical issues discussed at the meeting were specifically centred on how to thwart the plans by the PDP to extend its winning streak to the governorship election, which is billed to hold in Osun State less than a month from now and the current impeachment dangling on Governor Muritala Nyako of Adamawa State and other matters, relating to the interest of the APC.
Though, there was an arrangement by one of the attendees of the meeting to address the media on the outcome of the parley, when the governors emerged from the lobby of the Government House, none of them was willing to address journalists, except former governor of Ekiti, Chief Oni, who was recently elected deputy chairman, South for the APC, after decamping from the PDP.
Responding to enquiries from newsmen, he said, “we are here to strategise, regarding our preparations for election in Osun State. The way forward now is that we are going to work very hard and do whatever we should do and also we are warning that we don’t want any fowl play”.
“We are going to ensure that we do everything to ensure that we get an election that would be credible, free and fair. But, nobody should take us for granted”, Oni stated.
On the possibility of Ekiti June 21 governorship poll having an impact on the forthcoming Osun State election, he asserted that “definitely, it would have an impact. But, whatever happen in Ekiti State, we are going to prevent that from happening here in Osun State. You have to wait until you have the full report of what occurred in Ekiti. State We were not totally fooled, after all”.
Oni continued, “Let us be very factual and clear. What we are seeing in Ekiti is a new dimension to voting, election rigging and I can tell you that we have seen it, we have studied it and we can say for sure that nobody would fool Nigerian voters again”.
While reacting to congratulatory messages by the leaders of the APC to the new Governor-elect of Ekiti, Mr Ayo Fayose, immediately after the election and the sudden twist over allegation of rigging, the former governor stated that “Kayode Fayemi ,said if the result is indeed the will of the people, he didn’t say outrightly that he knows. But, if it is the will of the people, we are not going to go outrightly against it. But, we have seen very clearly. That is not the will of the people”.
Abiola’s son backs Aregbesola for second term
Abdul Abiola, one of the sons of the late business mogul, Chief MKO Abiola, on Wednesday in Lagos, called on the people of Osun State, to vote Governor Rauf Aregbesola, for a second term in office, saying that his endorsement of the governor was beyond partisan politics.
Aregbesola is seeking re-election in the August 9 governorship poll in the state on the platform of theAll Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at a press conference, Abiola pointed out that the Osun State governor had done what was in line with his late father’s vision for education in Nigeria, which be said, was very germane to the development of any country.
According to him, Aregbesola’s administration’s education policies is not only amazing but a feat that is transforming Osun education to enable its students be part of the global education/computer age.
“The introduction of the free computer tablet which encompasses all the text books for all public secondary school students in Osun, is highly commendable” he said, adding that it was a feat for a state like Osun that was rated as 34th in education among states in Nigeria to come up with such programme.
Abiola, who said he was humbled by the governor’s ability to merge the basic education in the state with computer education, said that between now and 2018, Osun would become an Information Comission Technology (ICT) hob in the country. While saying that Aregbesola had created a dream in education that must not be allowed to die, in spite of the low revenue accrued to the state, urged the Osun State electorate to vote for their generation in the August 9 poll by ensuring that the incumbent governor was returned to complete his vision for the state.
