The Lagos State Government yesterday clarified that the Nigerian Ambassador to Liberia, Mrs Chigozie Obi-Nnadozie was wrongly linked to the Ebola victim, Patrick Sawyer, who died in Lagos last Friday after flying into the country from Monrovia.
A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Media, Hakeem Bello, explained that it was the federal government officials working in collaboration with officials of the state government that provided the name of the ambassador as one of the persons, who came into contact with the late Sawyer.

The statement said the briefing where the name of the ambassador was mentioned had high profile Federal Ministry of Health officials in attendance.
It said, “Ebola Virus: Lagos, FG Urge The Citizens Not To Panic As No Nigerian Is Infected”. We refer to the story with the aforementioned title carried in the local media on Tuesday, and wish to correct the error that Nigeria’s ambassador to Liberia, Mrs Chigozie Obi-Nnadozie, was one of the persons that had contact with the late Liberian with Ebola Virus who died in Lagos last Friday after flying into the country from Monrovia”.
The statement added that government had since learnt that the official, who travelled to Nigeria with the victim that was mistaken for the Nigerian ambassador to Liberia, was actually a representative of the ECOWAS president.
“We hereby tender our unreserved apologies to Her Excellency for the inconveniencies this may have caused her both as an individual and a very high official and Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, the statement said.
Absolving its officials of any blame, the Lagos State government added, “We, however, wish to state here that the error was made by the official of the federal government who was at the briefing on Monday and provided the information at the Lagos Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja”.
