Why I passed under barbed wire at airport – Fayose

Peoples Democratic Party Governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, has explained why he passed under a barbed wire at Murtala Muhammed International Airport during his tenure as governor of the state.
Reacting to the picture, which went viral on the Internet, the former governor said he passed under the barbed wire because time was running out and he did not want to miss his flight.
He subsequently debunked claims by the All Progressives Congress that he committed the act in order to beat airport security and launder money.

Commenting on the picture, an APC chieftain and former governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni, had said Fayose was not worthy of being a governor because he lacked decorum.
Oni had said, “For a governor, what could have caused that? Even if there was a rampant shooting and everybody was escaping for their dear lives, as a governor I would have allowed my security to shield me and take me through whatever route that is better. But it was not an emergency. This is how much Fayose values decency.”

However, Fayose’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, told our correspondent during an interview on Monday that there was nothing wrong in the act.
He said, “The plane had arrived and he (Fayose) wanted to travel. On getting to the gate, it was locked and the airport staff could not find the key and he (Fayose) was eager to meet his deadline so he passed under the barbed wire.
“He did not do so in order to beat any security check and that did not amount to running away. There is no big deal in the act and that has nothing to do with good governance. Good governance involves meeting the needs of the people.”
