Ex- Kwara State Governor, Adamu Attah Dies

Former governor of old Kwara State, Adamu Attah, has been reported dead.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, Mr. Attah died on Thursday at the Abuja National hospital after a brief illness.

A relative of the deceased, Suleiman Attah, confirmed the death to newsmen

It was further gathered that the deceased would be buried on Friday in his home town of Okene, Kogi State.

Another source informed that a condolence register has been opened at the Kogi State government house while sympathisers trooped to the late Mr. Attah’s family house in Okene to pay their condolences.

The late Mr. Attah was the governor of the old Kwara State which comprised present Kwara and Kogi states between 1979 and 1983.

He lost the 1983 governorship election to the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria’s candidate, Cornelius Adebayo, who was the state governor before the December 31, 1983 military coup led by Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).

Meanwhile, the Kwara state Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed and his predecessor, Senator Bukola Saraki, have expressed sadness at the death of Attah.

Ahmed, in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Oba Abdulwahab, expressed shock over the former governor’s death.
Ahmed said with Attah’s death, Nigeria has lost the wisdom of an elder statesman.

The governor said, “I also commiserate with the government and people of Kogi State over the lost of this illustrious son who contributed immensely to building a strong nation where equity and justice will reign.”

Saraki in a condolence message signed by his media aide, Bankole Omisore, described Attah as a statesman of repute and a stakeholder in the Nigeria project, whose records and antecedent are clear in the history of Kwara and Nigerian politics.

“Though gone, the impact of Alhaji Adamu Attah cannot be under estimated in Kwara politics and apparently, his role and contributions in the administration of Kwara State.

“His departure is painful, but the fact that his wealth of wisdom in the history of Kwara State administration will be missed and it is more painful.
“I commiserate with immediate family of Alhaji Attah, the people of Kogi State and most especially the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Idris Wada, the Kwara State and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, and the entire people of Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole for losing one of our illustrious sons.

“I pray almighty Allah to comfort his family and may Allah grants the departed soul Aljana Fridauz.”
