'Facts About The New Lagos State Smoking In Community Areas Law'

Article submitted by Choices Nigeria.
There were different views on the recently passed smoking law since it had been signed by the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola on 17th of February 2014.
We've now obtained a copy of what the law states and are surprised to see that unlike what some individuals think, what the law says only becomes effective on the 17th of August 2014, which will be 6 months after the Governor signed.

Which means even the Police which were harassing smokers aren't aware of this. Incredibly, what the law states also provides for smoking in open places such as for instance on the streets, roads and highways as wells as in 10% of hotels, bars, night clubs and tertiary institutions. It even goes further to convey that what the law states is going to be enforced by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), meanwhile all kinds of people have now been harassing smokers, even LATSMA and Boys Scout.. Can our government make certain that the general public are well informed about laws they pass to stop undue harassment of its citizens.
