Lasrra to Issue Permanent Card By June



Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) would tentatively commence the issuance of permanent residency registration cards to registered residents of the State by June this year

The General Manager of the Agency Ms. Yinka Fashola disclosed this today during an interactive section with the press in LASRRA Headquarters’ in Ikeja.

Ms. Fashola said over one million residents of the State were registered by the Agency as at the end of January adding that 42 percent of those registered are residents in the Ikeja division of the State.

Speaking further she said that the percentage of the registration in Ikeja division is closely followed by that of Ikorodu which is followed by Lagos Island, Epe and Badagry.

Ms Fashola reiterated that the essence of the residency registration is to provide government with accurate and up-datable data for planning and resource allocation.

She stressed that area with heavy population needs to be rapidly developed because they make more demands on the resources of the State, pointing out that data would enable government determine such areas and what facility is required by different parts of the State.

She noted that the requirement for registration includes proof of residency and that of identification but observed that a lot of residents have a challenge with it because of lack of documentation.

Ms. Fashola disclosed that a lot of people have registration documents which they think is not appropriate, stressing that LASRRA registration officers should be allowed to determine which document is correct or not.

Citing Makoko as a case study, the General Manager said the issue encountered at Makoko by the Agency was that of residential addresses adding that LASRRA had started working with the people on how to resolve it and that registration has commenced there since Saturday.
