Police brutality In Ghana: Man Shot, Killed and buried By Police For Resisting Demolition Of Shops.

A man was shot and killed Monday morning by law enforcement at Adenta in Accra for wrestling with law enforcement who have been supervising the demolition of unauthorized structures there.

Three others, suspected to be land guards were arrested.

These were alleged to have lunged at law enforcement with dangerous weapons in an endeavor to avoid the demolition exercise being carried out by a private developer at Aviation lands, Adentan in Accra.

The Commander of the Alfa Swat Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Supt T. K. Hlormenu, told Joy News'Francisca Kakra Forson, law enforcement were left without choice than to protect themselves.

According to him, law enforcement opened fire, leading to the death of one.

The Member of Parliament for Adentan Constituency, Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, told Myjoyonlne.com's David Andoh that the deceased is a boy of the chief of the area.

As early as 6am, excavators, led by armed policemen entered the six hundred and forty acre land and proceeded to demolish makeshift homes, kiosks, shops, and some churches.

Encroachers run helter-skelter trying to move their belongings to safety because the excavators broke down wooden structures and smashed metal containers.

Nii Ashie Moore told reporters he was upset by the manner in which the exercise had been handled, saying such exercises must be carried out humanely.

Permits made by some residents which they claimed were issued for them by the Adentan Municipal Assembly in March this past year were deemed to be of dubious validity.

Aggrieved residents told Joy News, that although they'd received notice of the demolition, they ignored them because such notices before amounted to nothing.

The Aviation lands have been earmarked to be developed as a business district for individuals surviving in Adentan, Madina and their environs.
