Fashola, APC Governors, Leaders converge to honour Bisi Akande at 75



Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Thursday joined several notable Nigerians like Governors Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Rauf Aregbesola of Osun, Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo, Tanko Al-Makura of Nassarawa, Dr Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Owelle Rochas Okorocha of Imo, Senator Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State and several others in celebrating the National Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande as he turned 75.


The Governor in his tributes at the Colloquium held in honour of Chief Akande at the Eko Hotels, Victoria Island described him as one of those who played a pivotal role in midwiving the present democracy stating that till date, Chief Akande continues to uphold the tenets of democracy in his capacity as an elder statesman, a party chairperson and as a patriotic citizen of the country.

“He is a man worthy of emulation, one we should all aspire to be like because in the years that I have known him, I can honestly say that Chief Akande is a man of integrity. This country is blessed to have him and we need more men like him. We need more people to show the kind of dedication and selflessness that Chief Akande displays, so that this country can achieve its potential”, he stated.

Governor Fashola added that before he started public service, he had followed and admired Chief Akande who had walked with other men of integrity, serving as Deputy Governor to the late Chief Bola Ige during the latter’s tenure as Governor of Oyo State.

He said that Chief Akande had also served as Governor of Osun State during the years of this fresh democratic dispensation and citizens of that state can testify to his hardwork and the impact he made on the development of Osun.

He described the celebrant as a highly principled man who is the only person who has been the chairman of four parties in the country, namely the Alliance for Democracy, the Action Congress of Nigeria, the Action Congress and now the All Progressives Congress.

“He served admirably in all these parties, taking them to greater heights at every point, till now when we have what is the strongest opposition party this country has-the All Progressives Congress, which is poised to right the wrongs that have been done to the polity and return Nigeria to the path of greatness upon which we used to tread”, he stressed.

The Governor maintained that in an era of politicians, Chief Bisi Akande has always proved himself as a statesman and that leadership, faith in freedom and enterprise heralds a renewal for the Nigerian nation.

The event attracted the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Hon (Mrs) Adejoke Orelope- Adefulire, associates of Chief Akande, leaders of the party and representatives in the legislative and executive arm of government including the Senator representing the Lagos Central Senatorial district, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and others.
