Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo advised the seven “rebel” governors to find a way to beg and reconcile with President Goodluck Jonathan.
The former president offered the advice when five of seven governors visited him in Abeokuta, capital of Ogun State. The governors'visited significantly less than 24 hours after a detachment of policemen disrupted their meeting in Kano State Governor's Lodge, in Abuja.
The five governor who visited Obasanjo included Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) Aliyu Babangida (Niger), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Muritala Nyako (Adamawa) and Rabiu Kwankwanso (Kano).
Pointblanknews.com couldn't determine why Governors Abduahmed Fatai (Kwara) and Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto) stayed back.
Sources near the meeting said Obasanjo told the governors that their situation can only worsen should they continue steadily to oppose Jonathan.
Obasanjo reportedly told the governors that no President, irrespective of his perceived weakness, would stand and watch a human of governors test his resolve.
In line with the sources, the former president advised the embattled governors to find methods for reconciling with Jonathan if they don't want rougher days ahead.
A source among the governors who visited Obasanjo however confided in online source that the former president's advice might have fallen on deaf ears.
“From just how things are, I don't think some of these governors would beg Mr. President. They think they've crossed the rubicon and therefore had nothing more to lose to get rid of,” he added.
