In a moment of anger, a mother stabbed her own son in the heart.

The Chicago, Illinois woman stabbed her teenage son to death during an argument over ice cream, prosecutors in Cook County said.

Continue after the break.

The mother, Robin Erwin, 31, of Sauk Village, was charged with first-degree murder after police said she allegedly stabbed her 17-year-old son Diontae Erwin in the heart.
The incident happened on Saturday afternoon inside their home. The teenager was pronounced dead at a local hospital an hour later. After stabbing her son, Robin Erwin called police and said that her son walked into a knife that she was holding in her hand.

An investigation was launched after the death. The coroner’s office found the mother’s reasoning to be untrue, and they determined that force was used in killing the teen. The death was ruled a homicide prompting prosecutors to seek murder charges against the mother.

Investigators learned that the teen and his mother had an argument over ice cream at the family home. According to witnesses, the mother grabbed a knife during the altercation and stabbed her son in the chest, piercing his heart.

Neighbors said that police have been called to the Erwin family home several times for disturbances since they moved into the house about 18 months ago.
Robin Erwin is being held on $750,000 bond.
