Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Sam Amadi, on Monday in Abuja assured Nigerians of increased electricity generation from 5,000 to 7,000 megawatts by 2014. Amadi who gave the assurance during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said the increase was to meet the yearnings of Nigerians. “By our projection, we will get as much as 10,000 megawatts by first quarter of 2014, nevertheless the commission prefers to expect a much lower figure, that will be 7,000.
“This is because, with what's on ground and the activities which are going on, we'd have inked well based on the expectations in the market,” he said. Amadi also said Nigerians would soon have usage of a number of renewable sourced elements of power, other than hydro-power generation. “We are going to have solar and other designs of renewable power sources, because the county is making investment towards that. “Currently, you can find private firms which are licensed for solar. “So, we think that next few years, we must have a combination of power source from solar, gas, hydro, wind and all that,” he said.(NAN)
