Anambra Former Deputy Governor’s Lying In State Held In Awka



The remains of the former deputy governor of Anambra State, late Chudi Nwike, who was kidnapped and murdered by unknown men, was brought to the government house to receive the last honor from the state functionaries.
Speaking during the occasion, Anambra State governor; Peter Obi who condemned the actions that led to the former deputy governor’s death said greed is the problem with the society and until it is reduced, crime can only but increase.
The lying in state ceremony for the late former deputy governor, Dr Chudi Nwike at the premises of the government house, Awka, was a quiet a solemn one, as hearts were still heavy as a result of the circumstances that led to his death.
The former deputy governor was abducted on March 19th and his body was found on the 7th of April, 2013.

Dr. Nwike who was born on July 31, 1952 became the deputy governor to Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife (from 1992 to 1993) on the platform of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, before they were sacked by the military.  The officiating priest said that the death of Mr. Nwike is reflective of the type of leaders the nation has, who are yet to make sacrifices for the betterment of the country.
For the grief stricken governor, who recounted the recent incident of the attempted air mishap in which he was involved, said people should detach themselves a bit from the things of life and be prepared always to face the reality of life. He described the late ex-governor as a good man whose death was as a result of excessive greed in the society.
The remains of 50 year old Nwike will be laid to rest in his country home in Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra state today.
