KANO— The Department of State Security Service, DSS, has launched a full scale investigation to unravel the death threat to the executive members of Correspondent Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kano.
The development followed a formal petition by the Chairman of the Correspondent Chapel on behalf of others whose lifed came under threat by yet to be identified persons through phone.
The petition entitled ‘’Threat to life” signed by the secretary of the chapel, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu chronicled a graphic details of how an unknown person claiming to be agents of the Department of State Security had intermittently put up calls to officials of the chapel inviting them to the headquarters of the DSS in Kano.
The self-styled security agent had revealed during the conversation with the officials of the chapel that they were working on a petition filed by one Alhaji Musa Ibrahim alleging that Edwin Olofu-led exco is partnering with Kwankwaso administration and requested a verification.
The self acclaimed agent further threatened to whisk any of the executive members away at any public function if they refused to turn up for interrogation.
The petition tasked the DSS to wade in to the matter in the light of the security challenges confronting the state, stressing that ‘a threat of whisking any of us away might mean kidnapping, outright assassination of identified exco members or attack on the family members.
In his response, the Director of SSS in Kano, Mr Bassey disclaimed that no such officer existed within his command.
Mr Bassey assures the Leadership of the Correspondents chapel that the Department will do its best to unravel those behind the death threat with the view of bringing him to justice.
