Petroleo Brasileiro SA (PETR4), Brazil’s importer of liquefied natural gas, received a spot cargo from Nigeria, according to ship-tracking data.
The Trinity Glory, with a capacity of 152,675 cubic meters, arrived April 17 at Rio de Janeiro, according to ship transmissions captured by IHS Fairplay on Bloomberg. The tanker sailed from Nigeria LNG’s Bonny Island terminal, where it loaded the supercooled natural gas March 26.
A Petrobras official in Houston and Kudo Eresia-Eke, an Abuja-based Nigeria LNG spokesman, didn’t immediately respond to e-mails seeking comment outside normal working hours.
Brazil’s driest rainy season in a decade has reduced hydropower supply, boosting the country’s LNG demand,Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS) said in a Jan. 28 note. Petrobras, as the Brazilian oil company is known, has a floating regasification terminal at Guanabara Bay near Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil doesn’t have long-term LNG supply contracts with Nigeria, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
Nigeria LNG declared a force majeure Feb. 6 as Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDSA) halted supplies after a suspected release on a line near the Soku gas plant. The shutdown reduced gas supply to Nigeria LNG by about 45%, Eresia-Eke said in a statement e- mailed on Feb. 13.
Nigeria LNG was said to cancel an offer on Feb. 8 to sell a spot cargo loading in March, according to two people with knowledge of the tender. They asked not to be identified because they aren’t authorized to speak to the media.
