Sequel to a motion brought to the floor of the House by Hon Kingsley Chinda, PDP, Rivers state under matters of national importance, members of the House of Representatives Tuesday mandated the committees on Internal Security and Police Affairs to investigate the killing of four Nasarawa state University students by soldiers.
The students who were on a peaceful demonstration over lack of water and electricity on campus, were reportedly killed when soldiers shot into the crowd in a bid to quell the uprising.
The situation which is already generating “bad blood between the university students and men of the Nigerian Army,” was put to a voice vote by the Speaker, Hon Aminu Tambuwal and it was unanimously adopted.
Both committees on Security and Police Affairs are expected to submit their reports within two weeks to the House.
