Drama At Election Petition Tribunal As Two Individuals Claim Party Chairmanship

It was drama of some sorts at the Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Tuesday when two persons each claimed to be the state chairman of Accord Party (AP). They were both subsequently walked out of the courtroom.
The development, however, made the Justice Andovar Kaka’an-led three-member team to reserve further action on the petition of the party until it was able to settle the chairmanship issue. The AP had, in its petition, accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of disenfranchising its candidate, Mr Olawale Ojo, from participating in the October 20 governorship poll.

It had all began immediately the tribunal resumed sitting in Akure, the petition of the AP was mentioned as the duo of Olanrewaju Olaniyan and Dr Ajibola Falaye introduced themselves separately to the court as the chairman of the party in the state. Olaniyan told the court that he was the authentic chairman, while Falaye said he was the acting chairman and both insisted that they had the backing of the party to be so addressed and recognised by the tribunal.
However, attempt by the counsel for the petitioner, Mr. Michael Lana, to stop Falaye from parading himself as the acting chairman since he was not recognised in the petition filed before the tribunal was vehemently resisted by Falaye.
