IG praises Ondo election

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, has commended the people of Ondo State for their peaceful conduct during Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The IG’s commendation is contained in a statement on Monday by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Frank Mba.
Abubakar said in spite of some operational challenges, the electorate exhibited discipline, orderliness, patience and understanding.
He said such disposition, coupled with the immense cooperation they accorded the police and other security agencies, made the job of policing the election much easier.

The development, Abubakar said, had proved that democracy had come to stay in the country.
The IG said, “The exemplary comportment and conduct of the people of Ondo confirmed the fact that power belongs to the people.
“It is also an affirmation of the age-long position of the force that security is the task of everyone, and that the responsibility of policing a nation should not be left to the police and the security agencies alone.”
He commended the commitment, professionalism and patriotism exhibited by officers and men of the police, the military and other security agencies during the election.

He said their dedication and hard work created the conducive environment for the peaceful conduct of the poll.
He added, “The remarkable synergy among the various security agencies is a clear signal of the new collective resolve and commitment of all law enforcement agencies to work together for the greater good of the nation.
“One of the positive fall-outs of the Ondo State election is the clear message that the Nigeria police can amicably and successfully work with the public, in the discharge of their constitutional responsibility of protecting life and property.”

Abubakar noted that their performance justified the huge resources invested in pre-deployment, training, general capacity building and welfare of the personnel involved in the security management of the election.
