26-year-old man arraigned for murder of four persons



For allegedly conspiring with others to murder four men, a 26-year-old, Sadik Shittu, was on Wednesday in Lagos remanded in Ikoyi Prisons.
Shittu is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, murder and arson at a Yaba Magistrates’ Court.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the plea of the accused was not taken when the charges were read to him and was ordered remanded in prison by Magistrate M.O. Tanimola.

He said the accused should be kept behind bars, pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
The prosecutor, Insp. Rita Momoh, told the court that the accused committed the offences in 2011.
She said the accused, a resident of Ikorodu, had murdered the victims at Fadeyi on the Lagos-Ikorodu Expressway on July 3, 2011 at 10.30a.m.
Momoh said the accused conspired with Olushola Godspower and Babatope Ajayi, who had earlier been arraigned, to kill the four men.
She named the deceased as Adetayo Ogunyemi, Niyi Ehindero, Okon Ekaete and Amusa Adisa.

According to her, the accused also conspired to commit arson sometime in Feb. at Fadeyi.

“The accused and his accomplices set fire to some household items worth N250,000 and stole N160, 000 belonging to one Abdulmalik Sodiq,” Momoh said.
She said the offences contravened Sections 221, 231, 285 339 and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Magistrate M.O. Tanimola adjourned the case to December 28.
