Ukraine’s Prime Minister Calls on US, EU to Freeze Russian Assets





Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has urged the West to block all Russia’s financial assets and banking operations until it withdraws the troops it allegedly moved into Ukraine, the UNIAN news agency reported Thursday.

“The sanctions introduced have not brought any results. In this situation, one of the possible elements to deter Russian aggression must be considering imposing sanctions on freezing all Russian assets and suspending all Russian bank transactions in European Union member states, the United States and G7 countries,” Yatsenyuk said.

"The restrictions should be introduced until Russia withdraws its troops, hardware and agents from Ukraine," the prime minister added.

UK Cabinet Minister Willing to Join Scottish Independence Negotiating Team




 Mark Hirst – A senior member of the British Government who currently sits in the UK Cabinet, Alistair Carmichael, has told a Scottish newspaper he would resign his position and join Scotland’s negotiating team in the event Scots back 'Yes' in next month’s independence referendum.

Carmichael, who is presently Secretary of State for Scotland, told The Scotsman newspaper, "It would be difficult to see how you could fit into a [UK] cabinet which was at the point on its way to becoming part of a foreign country".

International Petition Calls for Independent Inquiry Into Malaysia Airlines Plane Crash





New York director of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation (NAPF) Alice Slater has drafted a petition for the organization of an independent inquiry into the Malaysia Airlines plane crash in Ukraine and has called for diplomatic dialogue to resolve important issues.
“The international investigation should factually determine the cause of the accident and hold responsible parties accountable to the families of the victims and the citizens of the world who fervently desire peace and a peaceful settlement of any existing conflicts,” Slater told RIA Novosti.

The militant in the video warns that Steven Sotloff's fate depends on what President Barack Obama does next in Iraq. Heartless: Man Strangles Wife to Death in Ibadan





Residents of Ajiyo Olokun Olunde area, Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Wednesday, woke up to the wailings of a middle-aged woman, who was strangulated by her husband, Saidina Yusuf. Nigerian Tribune gathered that the neighbours were alerted by the shout of people living with the victim’s family, while Yusuf carried out the dastardly act. One of the landlords in the area, Mr Yusuf Rasaq, who spoke with newsmen, said he was coming from the mosque around 6.30 a.m when he was alerted by neighbours.

Health minister confirms Ebola death, 2 other cases in PH



On Tuesday August 26th, Nigeria's Health Minister, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu said there clearly was only one case of Ebola in Nigeria, now he's confirmed that the doctor indeed died in Port Harcourt from Ebola. His name is Ikye Enemoah.
 
Addressing newsmen in Abuja today, the Minister said the physician died on Friday Aug. 22nd after treating a diplomat who'd direct connection with Patrick Sawyer, the initial case of Ebola virus disease in Nigeria. He explained laboratory analysis on his corpse showed he died from Ebola.

Jungle Justice Father cleared of murdering drunk driver who killed his 2 young sons





David Barajas (pictured above) has been acquitted with a jury in Texas court after he allegedly shot dead the person who killed his two young sons, David Jr 12, and Caleb, 11. Barajas have been standing trial on the shooting death of Jose Banda, 20, who was found dead in his car right after an incident in Houston, Texas.

In accordance with prosecutors, David Barajas and his sons were driving home on the afternoon of the incident when they ran out of fuel near their home. Then asked his two sons to get down from the vehicle and help push it. While the boys were pushing the vehicle, a drunk Banda crashed into the trunk of his car instantly crushing his sons to death. Prosecutors say a furious Barajas returned home to retrieve his gun which then used to shoot Banda with just one gunshot to the head.


When Barajas went to court for the killing, he was found not guilty of the murder. Continue...

Unknown Gunmen attack army camp in Bauchi, Commander killed



Unknown gunmen at about 5.20 today August 28th attacked an Army camp manned by six armed soldiers at Wunti -Dada, a suburb of Bauchi state, killing the commander of the camp and a soldier.

In accordance with reports by The Nation, the unknown gunmen arrived the camp in two motorcycles right after early morning Muslim prayers and opened fire, killing the commander and the soldier.

Wunti-Dada has been among the known security challenge points within the state capital with lots of unusual incidents. The Bauchi state Police Public relations officer and the the 33 Artillery Brigade spokesman have refused to comment on the development.

48 hours after Sunday Onyebuchi was impeached as the deputy governor of Enugu state for rearing chickens in his official quarters, members of the Enugu state house of Assembly today Aug. 28th, confirmed clergy man and politician, Ralph Nwoye (pictured above) as the newest deputy governor of the state.
Mr Ralph Nwoye, a pastor of the Christ Ascension Church in Enugu, is considered a former Local government chairman. He's likely to be sworn-in as deputy governor soon.

Nigeria reportedly records new Ebola death in Port Harcourt




According to a report on Sahara Reporters, a doctor resident in Port Harcourt who treated a diplomat that had direct contact with late Patrick Sawyer in Lagos, died last week Friday August 22nd from Ebola virus disease. Ironically, the diplomat he treated is still alive. The unidentified doctor had taken the diplomat to an undisclosed hotel in Port Harcourt to secretly treat him after the diplomat failed to turn himself in during the search for those who had direct contact with the late Patrick Sawyer. The late doctors wife has reportedly fallen ill and has been quarantined in Port Harcourt. Continue... 

Detained NFF president Aminu Maigari regains freedom from police custody



Detained NFF president Aminu Maigari has finally regained his freedom along side fellow executive committee member Chris Green. He was released yesterday one day after he was arrested on Aug 26th. 
“Maigari has been released by the security operatives. He was released in the morning from the special anti-robbery squad after he was handed to them by the Directorate of State Security Service. No charges were pressed against him, neither was he or Green questioned on anything. It was clearly to prevent them from attending the general assembly of Tuesday, which FIFA insisted be presided by Maigari.”” said an aide of the NFF boss.
Maigari, it was further learnt, was detained on orders of controversial former Rivers State police commissioner Joseph Mbu, who is now an assistant Inspector General of police. World football governing body FIFA is expected to soon rule on the unfolding drama in Nigeria...

281 Fake NYSC Members Sacked From Orientation Camp In Niger State





Authorities of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Niger State, northcentral Nigeria, have thrown 281 fake corps members  out of the orientation camp.
Mr. Steven Ehoda-adi, the state’s coordinator of NYSC, disclosed this Tuesday while speaking to journalists shortly after the closing ceremony of the 2014 Batch B orientation exercise in Paiko.

Following an early morning downpour on Monday morning, a four-storey building belonging to ‘Behold He Cometh Pentecostal Church’ situated at Umuagu-Umuahia, Abia State has collapsed ,no life was lost in the incident as nobody was at the site when the building collapsed.
Eyewitness account says the building which was at its final stage of completion before the tragedy collapsed around 10am after heavy rainfall that lasted for hours.

Ebola: Air France, British Airways ban flights to Sierra Leone, Liberia




Air France has temporarily suspended all its flights to Sierra Leone because of the current Ebola outbreak in the region. In a statement released by management of Air France today August 27th, the French government recommended the national carrier to suspend all its flight to Sierra Leone.
"Given the way the epidemic has evolved and the condition of the health systems.....the public authorities recommend to Air France that it temporarily suspend its services to Freetown" the statement read in part
Meanwhile British Airways has also suspended all its flights to Liberia and Sierra Leone till 2015.

A young lady trying to get to work gets Killed by Truck at Lekki Garden Junction




 A young lady who was trying to get to work on Lekki Gardens today was crushed to death by way of a truck. In accordance with eyewitness, the woman was trying to cross from the Abraham Adesanya End to the Lekki Gardens End once the truck ran over her. The truck driver tried to pick race but was stopped by a crowd that immediately gathered. Among her colleagues eventually stumbled on the scene and identified her and even said tomorrow is her birthday. People continue to  gathered there awaiting police to arrive.

What does a 9 year old girl need shooting lessons for? A 9-year-old girl learning to fire a submachine gun accidentally shot and killed her instructor at Last Stop gun range in White Hills, Arizona on Monday Aug. 25th. Authorities say when the girl pulled the trigger, the weapon recoiled over her shoulder and shot the instructor, 39 year old Charles Vacca, in the head. He later died in the hospital. The website of Bullets and Burgers, the shooting range where the accident happened, says children between the ages of 8 and 17 can shoot a weapon if accompanied by a parent or guardian. SSS arrests Nigeria Football Federation chairman, Aminu Maigari




Embattled President of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, Aminu Maigari has reportedly been arrested by the State Security Service agent in Abuja. Mr Maigari is said to have been arrested today August 26th alongside Musa Amadu the NFF Secretary General and Chris Green, a board member, as proceedings for the General meeting of the NFF began at Chida Hotel in Abuja. Reason for their arrest has not yet been disclosed. Embattled Maigari was recently reinstated as Chairman of the NFF by FIFA after being impeached by the NFF Board members in July.

Grieving brother discovers 'dead' sibling moving inside zipped-up body bag in morgue



54 year old Valdelucio Goncalves (pictured above) was found alive inside a body bag after doctors declared him dead. His grieving younger brother got the shock of his life after he found Valdelucio 'wriggling around' inside a zipped-up body bag in a morgue in Brazil.

Doctors claimed the man had suffered "respiratory and multiple organ failure" and declared him dead a few hours after his family took him to the hospital on Saturday August 23rd. His family then took what they believed was his corpse to the morgue inside the Menandro de Farias General Hospital in Salvador, northeast Brazil.

The next morning Val's brother Walterio was allowed into the morgue to dress his body ready for his funeral later in the day, only to get the shock of his life.

I am no longer a member of APC — Founding member Ikimi



A founding member of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Tom Ikimi, said he had withdrawn his membership of the party. Ikimi, who is a member of the party’s Board of Trustees, said he ceased from being a member of the APC from Wednesday, August 27 (today).
The former minister of external affairs accused some leaders of the party, especially former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, of imposition.

The former chairman of the defunct National Republic Convention said this in a statement he issued in Abuja on Tuesday.  Ikimi, who did not mention the political party he would join next, said that he was studying the other political parties in the country.

8ft 4 inches, World's 'tallest man', Leonid Stadnyk, dies aged 44



 Leonid Stadnyk, considered to be the world's tallest man at 8ft 4 inches has died. He was just 44. The peasant farmer from the Ukrainian village of Podoliantsy, died on Sunday August 24th from the brain haemorrhage after health problems.

In his last interview, Leonid, who wears a  talked on how his height was a curse, why he refused to be measured by the Guinness Book of World Records and also why he refused to get married 

"To me, my height is a curse, a punishment from God, not something to celebrate. What sin I have committed, I do not know. All my life I have dreamed of being just like everyone else. I don't want or need the fame that this would bring so I have no desire to be in this Guinness book.
"I never got married because I don't want to inflict my problems on a wife. I think it would not be fair on her" he said.
At one point, his condition, called giganticism, left him growing at the rate of roughly a foot every 3 years. His feet measured 18 inches in length while his palms were more than a foot in diameter

Nigeria successfully contains Ebola, has only one case left - Health Minister





Minister of Health Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu said today that Nigeria has had the opportunity to lessen the amount of Ebola cases to just one.

At a media briefing held today August 26th in Abuja, Prof. Onyebuchi said only 1 patient out from the 13 confirmed cases in Nigeria continues to be at the Isolation center. He explained five of the infected died while seven have successfully recovered and have now been discharged. He also said two of the nurses who attended to Patrick Sawyer at the First Consultant hospital were discharged yesterday.

19 dead as buses fall into Egypt canal





At least 19 people were killed and 12 others wounded when two minibuses collided and fell into an irrigation canal in southern Egypt on early Tuesday, Luxor Security Chief General Montasser Abu Zeid said. As the victims were coming from a wedding, one of the drivers lost control of the wheel when he surprisingly found another speedy bus coming from at the opposite side near Dhabiya village in Luxor’s West Bank, 670 km far from the capital. The strength of the crash pushed the two buses into the canal, Zeid said, noting most of the victims are women and children.

Ebola: FG orders all Schools to resume October 13




The Federal Government on Tuesday ordered that all primary and secondary schools in the country should resume on October 13, 2014 because of the outbreak of Ebola in the country.

The Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau announced the new resumption date after a marathon meeting with all the 36 state Commissioners of Education in Abuja on Tuesday evening.

Shekarau, who briefed journalists after the meeting, said all private schools in the country should also comply with the directive.

Nigeria’s oldest Pastor, Samuel Sadela, dies at age 114





Indications emerged on Tuesday that the Founder and President of the Gospel Apostolic Church, Pa Samuel Sadela, has passed on.

He was aged 114.

Although a senior pastor in the church reportedly claimed that the man described as one of Nigeria’s oldest pastors could still be receiving treatment in a hospital, he was said to have died in the premises of the church in Lagos.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko together with the top leaders of the European Union and the Eurasian Customs Union are to gather in Minsk on Tuesday to discuss the Ukrainian crisis and hold a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event.

“Everyone expects that the Minsk meeting will allow the exchange of opinions on the extent that efforts are on in settling the political process with the goal of settling the crisis in Ukraine,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.
The Minsk talks will mark the first encounter between Putin and Poroshenko since early June when they had an informal conversation while attending the World War II commemoration ceremony in Normandy.

I won’t apologise to defectors, says Oshiomhole





Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Monday said that he would not apologise to former members of the All Progressives Congress in the state who defected to an opposition party.

Oshiomhole, who made this known at the presentation of staff of office to Alhaji Jackson Etokhana as the Oghieavhianwu of Avhianwu, stated that he “will never share the state’s resources, meant for developing the state, to them.”

He added, “So, those who defect because I do not put money in their pockets, let them continue to defect; no apology. Everybody will be remembered when they write the history of politics in Afemai land.”

Nigerian Navy nabs seven with ₦28m stolen diesel





According to Punch, Operatives of the Nigerian Navy, Central Naval Command, have apprehended seven suspects in connection with stolen diesel in Bayelsa State.

The operatives also arrested their vessel, MV Mercy, loaded with 180,000 litres of the stolen diesel, which street value is put at N28m.

The suspects were said to have been arrested last Saturday in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

Woman bags 11 years for beating 3yr old son to death & hiding his body in suitcase



 A judge has blasted a mother who repeatedly punched her 3-year-old son until he died in an attack that 'simply beggars belief'. Rosdeep Adekoya, 34, has been jailed for 11 years for killing her son Mikaeel Kular, who she savagely beat then left to die for two days during a family holiday in January.

After discovering his lifeless body on the floor of their Edinburgh home in Ferry Gait Crescent, she wrapped it in a duvet cover, put it in the suitcase and drove to Kirkcaldy, Fife, to hide it in woodland.

Late Dr Adadevoh's younger sister reportedly tests positive to Ebola



SaharaReporters has learned today that Amy Ngozi Adadevoh, younger sister of the late Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, has reportedly tested positive for the Ebola virus. Miss Adadevoh had previously been a suspected case, a suspicion confirmed today by blood test. She has been moved to isolation at the Ebola treatment center in Lagos. She joins two other patients there undergoing evaluation and treatment.

Ebola: Liberian doctor passes on despite taking Zmapp




The National Deputy Chief Medical Doctor in Liberia, Abraham Borbor, has died from the Ebola virus disease despite taking the experimental drug, ZMapp. Late Dr. Borbor contracted the deadly virus while attending to Ebola patients at the John F. Kennedy Medical Centre in Monrovia. Liberia's Minister of Information Lewis Brown announced his death to reporters in Monrovia today and said the late doctor was improving as at yesterday August 24th but suddenly took ill and died.

Egypt President: Abdel Fattah al-Sisi denies role in Libya air strikes




President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi denied on Sunday that the Egyptian armed forces are involved in any military operation in Libya, official news agency MENA reported.


“We didn’t take part in any military act outside our borders so far,” Sisi said during his meeting with the state newspapers editors-in-chief.

The Islamists in Libya have claimed that Egypt along with the United Arab Emirates were behind the recent air strikes on their bases around Tripoli airport on Friday night that killed 11 fighters.

At Least 87 Injured in Northern California Earthquake – Media




More than 80 people were injured after a magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit northern California on Sunday, according to media reports. At least 87 people are being treated at hospital for injuries with two adults and a child being in critical condition, the Los Angeles Times reported citing local fire department officials. The quake left structures and roadways damaged and some 15,000 homes without power, according to ABC. The temblor jolted the Bay Area early Sunday morning. It was centered about 6 miles southwest of Napa and hit at a depth of about 7 miles, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported. The quake was felt as far south as Santa Cruz and into Sonoma County. The earthquake was the strongest to hit the region in nearly 25 years, according to USGS.

Poland, Baltics Urge NATO to Target Russia with Europe’s Ballistic Missile ‘Shield’



Several NATO member states have reportedly thrown their weight behind an agenda of targeting Russia with the US-controlled ballistic missile “shield,” which is being built in Europe to allegedly guard the European Union against Iran, Germany’s Der Spiegel said Sunday.
According to the German daily, the push comes from Poland and the Baltic trio of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia who claim they “feel threatened by Russia’s intervention into Ukraine.”
