ISIS beheads second Briton, threatens to kill US war veteran next



ISIS has beheaded British aid worker Alan Henning (left and inset). The militants posted a video of the horrific beheading online last night. In the video, the executioner who is described as Jihadi John because of his English accent said Alan's blood is on the hands of the British parliament.

Before he was beheaded, Alan also blamed his death on his government. He told the camera

"I am Alan Henning. Because of our Parliament's decision to attack the Islamic state I as a member of the British public will now pay the price for that decision.'

Pastor John Kayode of the Chris Apostolic Church, Otumara, Warri who lost his wife, Grace and four children, Egburoghene Enoch( 13), Efemena Ogheneruona (10), Oghenetejiri Tekwe (7) and Oghenemaro Ogheneyucime, in a fire disaster on Sept. 25th has reacted to the unfortunate incident.

While ministering to his congregation on Sunday September 28th, four days after the unfortunate incident, Pastor Kayode said the whole incident was the will of God and that his wife and children are now with the Lord.

Liberia set to prosecute national who took Ebola to US





Liberian authorities say they will prosecute Eric Duncan, the Liberian man diagnosed with Ebola in the US once he finishes his treatment in America and returns home.
"We wish him a speedy recovery; we await his arrival in Liberia to face prosecution" Binyah Kesselly, chairman of the board of directors of the Liberia Airport Authority said. Duncan is accused of lying to health officials when he filled a questionnaire before leaving the country last month saying that none of his relatives were sick. But investigations by the health ministry showed he had an Ebola infected relative whom he had taken to a hospital on a wheelbarrow but was turned back from the hospital after being told they lacked bed space for his ill relative. Duncan, said to be in a serious condition in a Dallas hospital, is the 1st case of Ebola to be diagnosed on US soil.

2 die , 14 rescued in Lagos boat mishap



Two persons including a man identified as Mr Idowu Lawal and a female identified as Fatima have been confirmed dead while 14 others were rescued after a boat capsized in the Igando area of Lagos state around 8pm on Wednesday October 1st.
According to Vanguard, the boat took off from Akesan and was heading to Imoshe in Ogun state, when it capsized almost immediately. Witnesses said the boat couldn't withstand the tides of the river.

An American cameraman, Ashoka Mukpo (pictured above) working for US TV station, NBC News in Liberia, has tested positive for Ebola, making him the 5th American to have contracted the disease and the first journalist known to have contracted the virus in West Africa. The 33-year-old cameraman and writer started showing symptoms of the disease on Wednesday Oct. 1st and immediately quarantined himself after suspecting he might have contracted the disease. He then went to the Doctors Without Borders test center in Monrovia, Liberia where it was confirmed he had the disease. He is expected to be evacuated from Liberia to the United States immediately for treatment. Four other NBC News team members who have shown no signs of the infection will also return to the US to undergo precautionary quarantine.

Detained AIT senior correspondent Amaechi Anakwue has been released on bail by AIG Zone 7, Joseph Mbu. He was however asked to return to the station on Friday. It would be recalled that the reporter was arrested by Joseph Mbu yesterday for describing him as 'controversial' on a television programme. In a swift reaction to his arrest, the management of Daar communication Plc, owners of AIT, had yesterday unequivocally demanded the unconditional and immediate release of its reporter from police custody.

Family of 5 found dead in their home in Lagos





A woman and her four children, all boys, were found dead in their residence at 8 Kunle Owooade Close, in the Itamaga area of Ikorodu, Lagos yesterday October 1st.

The family were discovered yesterday in their home with three of them already decomposing. Three of the boys were in one room, while the mother and the youngest boy were found in another room. One was actually found alive but barely clinging to life. He died on his way to the hospital.

Nigerians are missing my late father –Abacha’s daughter



Gumsu, daughter of the late maximum ruler, Gen. Sani Abacha, has claimed that Nigerians have been missing her father’s dictatorial leadership.  The late dictator’s daughter stated that she came to this conclusion after having closely monitored people’s comments on the trends of political events via social media.
Writing on her Twitter page, Gumsu claimed that “all of a sudden” she now also misses her late father.

Sanctions Against Russia Look Like ‘Legal Lawlessness’: Russian Communications Minister





The sanctions, imposed by the Western countries on Russia over the Ukrainian crisis resemble "legal lawlessness", Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media Nikolai Nikiforov said on Thursday.


"The word sanctions should not really be really used in this case because sanctions mean legally justified, significant measures, some kind of an international norm. The fact that what we are seeing now is still not sanctions, is a kind of a legal lawlessness," Nikiforov said at a meeting of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Commission on telecommunications and IT in Moscow.
During the meeting the minister also spoke of the government's role in developing Russia's communications industry.

AIT reporter held in custody on alleged orders of AIG Joseph Mbu



A senior reporter with African Independent Television, AIT, Amaechi Anakwue, has allegedly been detained for over 8 hours now in abuja on the orders of Assistant Inspector General of Police, Joseph Mbu for referring to the man as'controversial'during a TV programme.

Popular dancer Kemi Omotoyinbo dies during child birth



Popular dancer, choreographer and part actress Kemi Omotoyinbo has died. The beautiful lady who danced for several popular musicians including Pasuma, KWAM 1 and Shina Peters, died during childbirth in a private hospital in Lagos yesterday October 1st exactly 20 days after her wedding to husband Godwin Eloanyi, which was on September 13th.

According to her friends, Kemi was in and out of labour for several days in a private hospital and when she couldn't give birth the natural way, doctors said she would have to do a C&S. The doctors told her the operation would cost N450k and demanded an initial deposit of N300k before they do it.

Swiss Red Cross Worker Killed in Shelling of Donetsk: DPR Defense Ministry





A Swiss Red Cross worker was killed on Thursday in heavy artillery bombardment of central Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic said.


A RIA Novosti correspondent earlier reported that downtown Donetsk was targeted by mortar fire followed by shelling from Grad and Uragan multiple-launch rocket systems.
"The total number of victims is still unknown. We know for certain that Swiss citizen Laurent Etienn, a worker for the International Committee of the Red Cross, was killed in the shelling," the DPR ministry said in a statement.

Syrian Kurds Preparing to Fight Islamic States in Town Bordering Turkey: Reports




Syrian Kurds are getting ready for a long war against the Islamic State (IS) militants in Kobani, a town in northern Syria also known as Ayn al-Arab, al-Arabiya reported on Thursday.

According to the media reports, IS militants are likely to enter the besieged Kobani, which is one of the largest towns in the Kurdish region bordering Turkey.

On Thursday, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that clashes between IS and Kurdish fighters were going on "hundreds of meters away" from the east and southeast of Kobani, and some two or three kilometers away west of the city.

Patient Quarantined In Hawaii as Doctors Fear it’s the Next Ebola Case




An unidentified person has been quarantined in Hawaii and is currently being tested for Ebola. According to Hawaii health officials, the patient was placed in isolation after exhibiting possible symptoms consistent with Ebola. He is being treated at the Queen’s Medical Center in Hawaii. Authorities said they were being especially cautious because of heightened concern about Ebola, but the patient could have a number of illnesses. "The hospital is being very careful, as they should be, to take precautions making sure the patient is in isolation and making sure the people and the public stay safe," Dr. Melissa Viray of the Hawaii Department of Health told ABC affiliate KITV. "That being said, it's still an if. This is not a 'for sure' thing." The situation comes days after a man in Texas -- identified as Thomas Eric Duncan -- became the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the United States. 

Court acquits former PDP chairman, Vincent Ogbulafor, over ₦170m fraud





A Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, today October 2nd discharged and acquitted former National Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Vincent Ogbulafor, of a N170m fraud charge brought against him in 2001 by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC). Mr Ogbulafor who served as Minister of Special Duties in 2001 was alleged to have connived with one Mr Emeka Ebila, the then secretary of the National Economic Intelligence Committee, to defraud the Federal government of N170m through payments to contractors for jobs that were not done.

Defence HQ releases statement on purported video of Shekau in circulation, says its fake




The Nigeria military has reacted to the purported Boko Haram video released earlier today where Shekau or his fake said he was still alive. The military insists that he was killed last month and that the video is fake. Read the statement posted on the Defense HQ website below... 


The Defence Headquarters is studying the claims made in the video purportedly released by the terrorists showing their leader Abubakar Shekau as dismissing his death. From immediate observation and what some online news outlets claimed to have seen, the video did not indicate when it was shot neither did it show any proof of life or currency such as screen time or date.

Ex-House of Reps Speaker Dimeji Bankole has lost his 7 year old daughter, Yewande Semiat Bankole to sickle cell. She died in a London hospital yesterday October 1st. The Family released a statement today. Check it out after the jump

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today October 2, 2014 arraigned the duo of Alhaji Abdul Ahmadu and Bello Isa before Justice Farouq Lawal of the Kano State High Court on a 3-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and obtaining money by false pretence.

Ex-MD of News Agency of Nigeria, Oluremi Oyo, passes on @62




Former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN and first female President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mrs Oluremi Oyo has died. She died yesterday October 1st at a hospital in London. Her husband, Mr Vincent Oyo confirmed her death this morning. Mrs Oyo have been battling with cancer for a while. Born in 1952, Mrs Oyo served while the Senior Special Assistant to President Olusegun Obasanjo for media and publicity from 2003 to 2007, the 1st woman to be appointed to this kind of position. She was appointed in 2007 as the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria. She's survived by her husband, children and grandchildren.

Meet the Liberian man diagnosed with the 1st case of Ebola in US




 The identity of the person identified as having the 1st case of Ebola virus disease in America on Tuesday September 30th has been revealed. He's 42 year old Eric Duncan, pictured above. In accordance with reports, this is Eric's first visit to the US and he went there to go to some family members. He's believed to have contracted the deadly virus from an infected pregnant woman in Liberia. 

Ghana plans to export electricity to Nigeria



Ghanaian president John Mahama, said that there are plans by his govt to start exporting electricity generated in Ghana to Nigeria and other West African countries. He said this while speaking at the Global Business and Economic Forum in Dubai yesterday October 1st,
"We have given priority to electricity generation in our country. We have prioritized energy in such a way that we want to become the hub for power production in West Africa. We want to generate electricity to the point that excess power can be exported to Nigeria, Ivory Coast and other countries that have power deficit,” he said.

T.B Joshua warns people to stop talking bad about his church, claims he saw building collapse coming

Commanders-in-chief: From 1960 To Date





Nigeria became an independent nation on 1 October, 1960 and a republican country three years later and it was then we began having a Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces starting with Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe who was the ceremonial Head of State. It was only during the First Republic when the office was separated from that of the Prime Minister or the President. Alhaji Tafawa Balewa was the only Head of the Government who was not the Commander-in-Chief because we were practising the Parliamentary System of Government imposed by the British government.

Borno state Governor grants 22 prisoners amnesty to mark independence




Borno state Governor, Kashim Shettima, today October 1st granted 22 prison inmates amnesty during an unscheduled visit to the Maiduguri Maximum Security Prison in celebration of Nigeria's independence. Governor Shettima said the amnesty granted to the prisoners followed the recommendation of the State Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy. 

UN Secretary General Condemns Donetsk School Shelling in East Ukraine





UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the shelling of a school in east Ukraine's besieged city of Donetsk and described the incident as "particularly alarming," UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric told the press on Wednesday.

In Donetsk, the feast of the "first of September" (the beginning of the school year was postponed to October 1) troops again staged a brutal shooting of civilians with heavy weapons. This morning, around 10:30 under attack from multiple rocket launchers "Grad" hit area of the city of Donetsk, Kiev intersection of Prospect Street and polygraphic. One shell hit a passenger bus. At least eight people were killed on the spot, six of whom died an agonizing death on the street by shell splinters. The vehicle burned to the ground, firefighters did not have time to put out the flames. The school children were killed.

15 year old Argentinian Julia Alvarez was left disfigured after two jealous girls slashed her face with knives because she was 'too pretty'. The two girls, who are sisters, have since been arrested. Julia later told police the girls said they wanted to make her look like horror movie character, Chucky.

Julia said she was walking home in the town of Juan Domingo Peron, in the northern Argentinian province of Formosa, when the girls aged 18 and 16 attacked her without any provocation.

"Everyone says you are pretty. You won't look pretty when we have finished with you. People will call you Chucky." - Julia claims this is what the girls told her before slashing her face...

Boko Haram has carried out at least 9 attacks on the town of Konduga, Borno State since September 12th, 2014. This video footage shows the Boko Haram fatalities after one of the attacks. If you observe, many of the corpses look like those of kids, some of the Civilian JTF members (the guys with guns and RPG rounds walking around) also look like they are teens.

Boko Haram: Nigeria Military Arrest ICT Expert behind Terrorist Videos



Vanguard reports the foreigner was arrested with some sophisticated equipment and copies of some of the videos the terrorists had sent to online media houses on their escapades, including that of the abducted Chibok girls. Military sources disclosed that the computer analyst who is currently being 
interrogated was responsible for configuring computer images website and internet accesses for the group.

Buhari to inaugurate Ekiti square





Activities marking the fourth anniversary of the Dr. Kayode Fayemi administration continued on Wednesday with the official commissioning of the 12,000 seater Ekiti Parapo Square in Ado-Ekiti.

The square which is one of the projects of the Fayemi administration would be inaugurated by a former Head of State, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), supported by other eminent Nigerians.
