Police officers in the US State of Missouri fatally shot a 23-year-old black man just about ten days after the police killing of black teenager Michael Brown in the St. Louis area, St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon just several miles south of the city of Ferguson, where the shooting of 18-year-old Brown has triggered a wave of mass protests and riots.

New Map of Nigeria, as proposed by National Conference #NGConfab

The National Conference in its final report recommended the creation of 18 additional states to bring the number of states in the country to 54.  The recommendation was made by the Committee on Political Restructuring and Forms of Government jointly headed by Ike Nwachukwu and Mohammed Kumalia.
Initially, some Northern delegates kicked against moves to create additional states apart from the one proposed for the South-East which was overwhelmingly supported. But after series of consultations by the leadership of delegations, the Conference unanimously adopted the recommendation for the creation of additional 18 new states.

Ebola fear: Cameroon closes borders with Nigeria

In a bid to stop the deadly Ebola virus from entering to their country, the Cameroonian government has closed all borders with Nigeria.

 The border closure was made known today by the spokesman of the Cameroonian government, Issa Tchimora Bakary

"All borders, land, sea, and air, between Cameroon and Nigeria are closed. Our thinking is that it is better to act preventively rather than have to heal those who may fall ill" he said

Cameroon has so far not recorded any case of Ebola...

R.I.P: Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh dies from Ebola virus

Just confirmed from a family source. Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the Senior Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist who was one of many doctors who attended to Patrick Sawyer at First Consultant Hospital has died from the Ebola virus which she contracted from Sawyer.

Dr. Ameyo died this afternoon Tuesday August 19th at the isolation unit of the Mainland Hospital in Lagos where she'd been quarantined. She died a hero because she was the physician who refused to let Patrick Sawyer, the person who brought the Ebola virus to Nigeria, leave the First Consultant Hospital in Obalende, Lagos, when he tried with leave. She saved many lives by doing this. Her death is really heartbreaking.

Racism is deeply embedded in our culture.  Slavery of African people, ethnic cleansing of Native Americans and colonialist imperialism are seeds that intertwine to create racism that still has impacts today.  One example of the sad human history of racism — of colonizers seeing themselves as superior to others — is the long history of human zoos that featured Africans and conquered indigenous peoples, putting them on display in much the same way as animals. People would be kidnapped and brought to be exhibited in human zoos.  It was not uncommon for these people to die quickly, even within a year of their captivity. R.I.P: Veteran actor Adebayo Faleti is NOT dead

When I first heard about it I know it won’t be true, not that he’s immortal, but my mind not just believing it to be true. Actor Adebayo Faleti is NOT dead. The 83 year old is well-known Nigerian poet, writer and actor. He is also known for being a successful Yoruba translator, a broadcaster, TV exponent and a pioneer of the first television station in Africa, Western Nigeria Television (WNTV). He was also responsible for translating Nigeria’s National Anthem from English to Yoruba. Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association Of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Oyo State chapter, has dismissed the report as false. This was confirmed in a broadcast message sent by Yeye Rose Odika( Chairperson, TAMPAN Oyo State), Baba Adebayo Akande Faleti Ode Ababa is at his Ojoo residence(in Ibadan)

Nuhu Ribadu contesting For Governor On Platform Of PDP

Yesterday Nuhu Ribadu indicated interest in the Adamawa State governorship on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ribadu, a fervent critic of the PDP for its corrupt excesses, joined a throng of prominent indigenes to collect the party’s Expression of Interest form for the party’s governorship primaries.
The former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has in the past 10 years criticized the PDP heavily.  After assuming control of the commission in 2004, he worked hard to indict or jail several of its members.

4 more Ebola patients discharged – Health Minister

4 more patients have now been certified clean and discharged from the Ebola Isolation center in Lagos after undergoing treatment for the deadly disease. The four patients include two male doctors, the nurse who'd earlier escaped from the isolation center and ran to Enugu and women patient who had been on admission during the time Patrick Sawyer was hospitalized at the First Consultant Hospital. 

The headlines of these discharge was disclosed in a statement released today by the Minister of Health, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu and signed by his his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Mr. Dan Nwomeh

Medical doctors, students, consultants converged at the Lagos University Teaching hospital, (LUTH), Idi Araba, today to protest the recent sack of 16,000 resident doctors by the Federal Government. The protest was led by the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Dr. Tope Ojo. The doctors said their strike was never about a rise in their salary, that they certainly were fighting for was for better structures and equipment in hospitals across the country. Former EFCC boss Nuhu Ribadu has defended his defection from APC to PDP, which he announced over the weekend. Speaking through his spokesperson Abdulaziz Abdulaziz to Punch, Ribadu said;

"In Nigeria, especially in politics, you can’t say that this is an exclusive party for the people who are thieves or this is for good people. It’s just like saying that all Yorubas are this or all Igbos are this. In every group of people, there must be good people and there are bad people. Armed men attack Monrovia Ebola clinic, 29 patients pick race

 In a new reported available Omo Oodua Blog, armed men yesterday night attacked an Ebola isolation centre in the densely populated Monrovia suburb of Westpoint, Liberia. 29 patients under quarantine reportedly fled the centre. Some reports say the armed men were residents of the region who looted materials employed by quarantine patients. A witness of the attack, Rebecca Wesseh said

 "They broke down the doors and looted the place. The patients all fled” The Head of Health Workers Association of Liberia, George Williams has confirmed the sad incident. But who goes to steal from sick, quarantined people? Are they mentally alright? More details later..

The Sokoto state Police command has recovered and returned N15million which was stolen from an unidentified man by a 5-man armed robbery gang at the Ilela border market in Ilela LGA of Sokoto state onJune 1st.

Parading the suspects with the money recovered at the Sokoto state Police command headquaters,  DCP Douglas Agbonleni who spoke on behalf of the Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, Gambo Lawal, gave an insight on how the robbers were able to dislodge their victim of the money and how they were subsequently caught.

Nigerian military to court-martial over 100 soldiers for cowardice

The Nigerian military is in the process of constituting a trial panel to try over 100 soldiers said to have exhibited “acts of cowardice” and “disobeyed deployment directives” in Maiduguri on Saturday, reliable military insiders have told PT. The soldiers were among several hundred troops being deployed from the army’s 7th Division in Maiduguri to locations in Damboa and Gwoza for major operations planned to significantly rout the extremist Boko Haram sect from the areas.

“But as we were about to depart, some of the soldiers began to behave funny,” a witness said. “They were acting in ways that were delaying the movement. This was a movement that had been timed and we had to arrive locations at a time that should coincide with other operational arrangements. And then these guys were slowing us down.”
