Igbo Deportees Drag Lagos State Government To Court, demand ₦1b.



The 76 destitute people, who were deported by the Lagos State Government and dumped on the Upper Iweka Bridge, Onitsha, Anambra State on July 24, 2013, have dragged the Lagos State Government to a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

 7 of the deportees - Joseph Aniebonam, Osondu Mbuto, Osondu Agwu, Nnenna Ogbonna, Emily Okoroariri, Friday Ndukwe and Onyeka Ugwu filed the N1billion suit because the applicants, on behalf of the 76 others, while the Attorney-General of Lagos State and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State would be the respondents.

UK Pays £1m To Send 534 Nigerian Prisoners back Home



The United Kingdom has promised to offer Nigerian Prisons £1m (about N210m) to improve its prisons before 534 Nigerian prisoners in Britain may be sent home to serve the remaining of these jail sentences under an offer agreed between the 2 countries.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron has made it a major campaign point in 2010 to reduce the number of foreign prisoners in UK prisons by deporting them in order to complete their sentence in their house countries.

Nigerian lady kills herself In Abuja after Sending Facebook Suicide Letter



The woman under consideration is identified as Asampete Fatima Usman, a graduate of the University of Maiduguri who lives and works in Abuja. Fatima hails from Hong city in Adamawa state. According to sources, depressed Fatima sent an apparent suicide letter to several friends on Facebook on the 1st of October 2013.  In the suicide note, Fatima informs friends of her intention of killing herself but her friends thought she was joking.

What this crowd did to my husband and my son cannot be justified from the point of view of any religion. But I also consider it to be a no lesser crime that the remains of these martyrs are still being hid from their relatives, which is something unprecedented in the entire history.

25 Nigerians nabbed during Haj in Saudi Arabia for crime



Twenty-five Nigerians ostensibly in Saudi Arabia to perform this year's Haj have been arrested over theft. The thieves, whose identities were not disclosed, “all with prior criminal records, have been arrested in Makkah,” according to Saudi Gazette, quoting Makkah Police spokesman Lt. Col. Abdul Mohsin Al-Maiman.

“The thieves robbed pilgrims inside the Grand Mosque and broke into several shops and houses in Makkah. Several members of the gang were nabbed red-handed and they guided the police to other members who have been hiding in a vintage building on Al-Mansour St. 80 cellular phones and over SR50,000 in currency was seized,” the report said.

Microphone Blast Eliminates Afghan Governor At Eid Prayers



A bomb hidden in a microphone has killed an Afghan provincial governor as he made a speech at a mosque after Eid prayers in Logar, near to the capital Kabul.

Arsala Jamal was appointed by President Hamid Karzai, like all 34 provincial governors, and he was viewed as a close ally of the president, acting as one of his campaign managers in the 2009 election.

“This morning, governor Jamal was delivering a speech after Eid prayers when he was killed with a bomb planted in the microphone,” Logar provincial governor spokesman Din Mohammad Darwish. “The governor wished to speak and congratulate everyone on the occasion of Eid. At the least 18 others have already been wounded, including civilians and government employees.”

The very first open heart surgery in a training hospital in Nigeria has been successfully carried out at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, Oyo State.T he feat was carried out by surgeons at the UCH together with a group of surgeons from Tri-State Cardiovascular Delaware, United States of America,A record by the institution's Head of Information Unit, Mr. Toye Akinrinola, disclosed that the four-hour surgery was to improve a leaky heart valve in a 19-year-old secondary school leaver.

Bayelsa State police command have confirmed the kidnapping of President Goodluck Jonathan's Special Adviser on Research, Documentation and Strategy, Oronto Douglas'elder sister, Augusta Douglas-Ayam.
Confirming the incident, Hilary Opara, the commissioner of police, said Mrs Douglas-Ayam was kidnapped at about 8 p.m. on Monday night in Ogbia town by unidentified gunmen.

Julius Agwu Visits His Child, Zahra's School In Houston, US




Nigerian Ace comedian Julius Agwu is currently in the US, where he and his wife just welcomed their second child.  The comedian shared photos of himself and daughter hanging out in Houston, Texas.
Apparently, Julius made out time to also visit his daughter's school and shared friends picture of Zahra her classmates and teachers.  On October 7, 2013, Agwu and his wife, Ibiere welcomed their second child and first son – Zadok. More photos following the jump.

Shameless: Police Officers get seriously beating up by Armed Hoodlums' visit to their Station




Men of the Nigeria Police Force were caught unawares on Monday when a gang of heavily armed gun men in their early 30s invaded the police station and disarmed them of their weapons in broad day light.
One policemen confessed:
“I was more or less to go in and check some detainees when I heard gunshots. I rushed out to be face-to-face with bandits in flowing caftans, and some in tattered army uniforms, shooting into the air and ordering us to come out and sleep on the road.

“They then started throwing explosives into the police station. The ground was seriously shaking.
"They later moved to the bank (about 100 metres away) and started shooting and throwing explosives. Some of the robbers were standing over us, while the rest were at the bank.

R.I.P: Professor Slumps And Dies While Watching Nigeria-Ethiopia Game



Michael Filani of the Department of Geography, University of Ibadan, passed away on Sunday, October 13, while watching the Nigeria/Ethiopia World Cup qualifying match.  The Ikole Ekiti-born professor slumped and died while watching the match at his Oluyole Extension home in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. With over 35 years of experience in teaching and research, his areas of emphasis include transport planning and development; economic geography; and regional development planning. He served in several capacities both within and away from University of Ibadan. He wrote and published more than 90 articles, technical and consultancy reports on transport, regional development and planning, particularly in Nigeria. His death was received with shock by the university community yesterday. Lots of people said he was agile and radiant at his last public outing

Gunmen Rob Makarfi Bank, Wreak Havoc For Two Hours "Non-stop"



On Sunday, October 13, armed robbers stormed an area Keystone Bank situated in Makarfi, Kaduna State, taking an undisclosed amount of cash with them.
The gunmen attacked the local police station and the financial institution with explosives, shooting sporadically.
The attack, based on the eyewitnesees, happened at about 9 pm, and lasted for about two hours, uninterrupted.
