Obama to meet McCain to obtain his support for intervention in Syria

US President Barack Obama is expected to invite Senator John McCain to the White House today to help sell to Congress the idea of a US military intervention in Syria. Members of Congress in both parties said they would not be able to support the current draft of a resolution authorizing Obama to launch a military strike. John Kerry, the US secretary of state, and Chuck Hagel, the secretary of defense, will both appear before Congress to make the administration's case for war on Tuesday.
Part of their drive includes winning over John McCain, who has called for the US to intervene forcefully to overthrow Bashar al-Assad and said he would oppose "isolated military strikes that are not part of an overall strategy" to defeat the regime.

Obama seeks Congressional approval to bombard Syrian Government

US President Barack Obama does not need congressional approval to order strikes against Syria, but that option is disadvantageous to him, Chairman of the Russian State Duma International Affairs Committee Alexei Pushkov told Interfax.

“The law obliges the president to seek congressional authorization in case of war, but in a whole number of cases in the past the law was ignored on the basis of Congress’s resolution 1973 which authorizes the president to launch a military operation overseas for up to 60 days under emergency circumstances without seeking permission from Congress if immediate action is necessary,” Pushkov said

The men being held at the illegal Guantanamo terror prison have been in literal limbo for over 12 years. The fact that they are Muslim and kept offshore makes them an abstraction for the American people, who along with the media have forgotten about their plight. More than half of the illegally detained inmates have been deemed completely innocent, but U.S. President Obama, despite his endless “nice words” has refused to release them.

President Obama declared before the world that he would not permit any diplomatic "wheeling and dealing" Over Snowden

"One week ago I left Hong Kong after it became clear that my freedom and safety were under threat for revealing the truth. My continued liberty has been owed to the efforts of friends new and old, family, and others who I have never met and probably never will. I trusted them with my life and they returned that trust with a faith in me for which I will always be thankful.

On Thursday, President Obama declared before the world that he would not permit any diplomatic "wheeling and dealing" over my case. Yet now it is being reported that after promising not to do so, the President ordered his Vice President to pressure the leaders of nations from which I have requested protection to deny my asylum petitions.

This kind of deception from a world leader is not justice, and neither is the extralegal penalty of exile. These are the old, bad tools of political aggression. Their purpose is to frighten, not me, but those who would come after me.

Bloomberg plays hoax against Obama

A bizarre Bloomberg story, citing what was represented to be one of the biggest intelligence leaks in US history, hit during the G8 conference and the critical meetings between US President Obama and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

The purpose of the story by Bloomberg News, now exposed as a hoax, was to hamstring and humiliate President Obama in his meetings with Putin and show American weakness and indecision on Syria, not just that but demonstrate American recklessness and disregard for international law.

US intelligence officials tell us they see a strong pattern of “planted” news stories, and phony “leaks,” all meant to sell a “war of deception” they say is part of an hostile operation against the US by a foreign intelligence agency.

Snowden, Obama, Ecuador Updates: Russia did not invite Snowden, Obama will not intercept plane

Russia did not invite Edward Snowden onto Russian territory. This was announced on Thursday by the Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak. Former CIA officer and NSA contractor Edward Snowden, who revealed the details of secret U.S. intelligence spying programs, fled from the U.S. to Hong Kong, and on June 23, flew to Moscow intending to move onward to Havana.

Currently he is in the transit area of Sheremetyevo international airport, pending a decision by Ecuador from which he has asked for political asylum.
Kislyak does not believe that the problem of Snowden, who did not cross the border into Russia, could complicate relations between Moscow and Washington.
Earlier in the day, President Barack Obama said he "would not use fighter jets to intercept the plane with Snowden, wherever he was going."

(Audio - Photo): Obama is holding people at Guantanamo for no reason and force feeding them illegally – Michael Ratner

The men being held at the illegal Guantanamo terror prison have been in literal limbo for over 12 years. More than half of the illegally detained inmates have been deemed completely innocent, but U.S. President Obama, despite his endless “nice words” has refused to release them.

The people at Guantanamo have reached such a level of hopelessness that almost all of them have decided to end their own lives by doing the only thing they can; stop eating. Obama has decided once again to break the law and force-feed them. Michael Ratner, the U.S. lawyer for Julian Assange and the lawyer for many of the inmates at Guantanamo, spoke to John Robles on the matter.

I’m speaking with Mr. Michael Ratner, the President Emeritus of the Center for Constitutional Rights and the US lawyer for Julian Assange. The Center for Constitutional Rights also represents several of the inmates at the Guantanamo detention camp.
