Denrele Edun and his family were attacked by armed robbers around 3am early this morning at their family home in Ebute Metta, Yaba. Denrele, his sister, father, grandmother and cousins were all home when the 5 armed men broke into their home. They carted away property - grandma's jewellery, cash, phones, laptops, watches, gadgets and a brand new plasma screen - but thankfully no one was seriously injured. The insecurity in this country..

SHOCKING: Evangelical Church Minister Jailed For Séxually Assaulting His Family
A former evangelical church minister who subjected his family to long term cruelty and s*x abuse was jailed for 15 years today by a judge who called him ‘bullying and tyrannical.’
The 40-year-old had been convicted earlier this month of raping his wife and stepdaughter and being cruel to both his stepchildren between 1995 and 2010.
At one stage, early on in the man’s relationship with the mother and two children, social services were involved with the family - but did not detect what was going on.

Nigeria combs border areas for kidnapped French family
MAIDUGURI (AFP) – Nigerian security forces searched the country’s northeast along the border with Cameroon on Thursday in a bid to free a French family kidnapped earlier this week, officials said.
“Intelligence reports have shown that the abductors may be holding their victims … around the Dikwa area,” a security official in the region said on condition of anonymity.
“But I must tell you we haven’t got the exact location. Our men and other sister security agencies, especially our colleagues in the immigration service, are already on operation and we have the strictest instruction to carry out the operation with caution.”

39-Year-Old Mother Of Four Raped And Brutally Tortured By Family Members
The 39-year-old vulnerable and illiterate mother-of-four was used as a sexual toy and was brutally tortured by an extended family and their friend who forced her to become their slave for a total of six years.
An Indian domestic worker was repeatedly raped and beaten by her employers who threatened to murder her if she complained, a court heard.

Baby Survives As Family Die in Mecca Taxi Crash
Five members of the same family have been killed in a car crash in Saudi Arabia – but a one-year-old baby survived.
Three generations of the family, from Wales, had been making a religious pilgrimage to Mecca ahead of a family wedding when the taxi they were travelling in crashed into a ditch.
The victims have been named locally as Shaukat Ali Hayat, 56, his wife Abida, 47, eldest son Mohammed Isshaq, 33, daughter Saira Zenub and Mohammed’s heavily pregnant wife, Bilques, 31. It is believed one-year-old Mohammed Eisa Daniel was the only survivor. Reports say he was found among the crumpled wreckage being cradled in the arms of his dying grandfather.

Friends and Family remember youth killed by DPO
Exactly a year today, 27-year-old Ademola Abe strolled to a newsstand few metres to his house at Yaya Abatan, Lagos to read newspapers, but never came back home alive. The young man was allegedly shot dead by the then Divisional Police Officer of Pen Cinema, Lagos, Segun Fabunmi, on January 9, 2012 during the protest against fuel subsidy removal. On Tuesday when our correspondent visited Yaya Abatan, the junction where Ademola was shot dead, a bust erected in his memory at the spot reminds passersby of a life lost prematurely.

A police corporal assigned to the Wuse Zone 3 Police Division, Abuja, died on Monday at the National Hospital after rejecting blood transfusion.The husband of the deceased, Emmanuel Timothy, said in an interview, that his wife, Grace, who was a member of the Jehovah Witness, died because her family refused to consent to her having a blood transfusion.

The presidency has paid nearly N1billion to the family of late President Umaru Yar'Adua, according to an official memo obtained by SaharaReporters. Nkiru Sylvanu Update:Family Paid N8 million to kidnappers for her release
The police in Owerri, the Imo state capital told reporters during a press briefing yesterday that Nkiru Sylvanus' family paid N8 million to the kidnappers before she was released on Thursday night.
The Commissioner of Police, Adisa Bolanta, said the family did this without the knowledge of the police. He said they had warned the family not to negotiate or deal directly with the kidnappers but they defied their orders "They defied our warnings and continued negotiations with the kidnappers. They went behind us and paid N8 million to them. We have made some arrests in connection with the case and very soon they will all be apprehended." He said
