Living with fumes of death: More Nigerians dying from inhaling generator fumes

ARUKAINO UMUKORO writes that more Nigerians are dying from inhaling generator fumes even as the country’s energy sector is comatose
In the still of the night, it sneaked in quietly and lingered dangerously for hours. With every breath intake, the deadly gas known as carbon monoxide, found in fumes from generators as well as in car exhausts, sucked lives out of its hapless victims who were fast asleep. This was what happened on May 28, when Mrs. Chinyere Celestine, and four of her children were found dead in their home off Goodnews Street, in Azikoro suburb, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
They were said to have died in their sleep that night, while the generator was still on.
The father of the children and husband of Chinyere, identified as Celestine, who was said to be in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, when the tragedy occurred, had called a neighbour when he could not reach his wife on telephone the next day. After several attempts to wake the victims, the neighbour raised the alarm that compelled other neighbours to force the door open. They found the victims’ lifeless bodies.

Save yourself from sudden death

The news of the demise of Nigerian female musician, 30-year-old Susan Harvey (Goldie), is no longer new. What is new, however, is the suddenness, which has left many people wondering what might have led to her death.
What more, being a public figure, Goldie lived virtually all her life before the camera. She appeared healthy enough and her fans had no inkling that she ever had any health issue.
Many reasons — albeit unofficial — has been adduced for her death. For one, an artiste friend of hers, Denrele Edun, who reportedly rushed her to the hospital when she collapsed suddenly upon arrival from the United States where she had attended the Grammy Awards, said she died of pneumonia.

Some Lessons To Learn from Pope’s resignation

The sudden resignation of the pope or abdication of his authority or papacy or reign came to all Catholic faithful and indeed religious people all over the world as a shock. This the pontiff attributed to old age and his inability to be strong to continue in his capacity as Saint Peter’s successor and head of the Catholic fold.
This hasn't happened in the history of the church for 400 years. This brings to mind the recent retirement of His eminence Anthony Cardinal Okojie, Emeritus Archbishop of Lagos, and many other religious and clergymen.

According to a reliable defence source who asked not to be named, the Nigerian contingent solicits food and handouts under the guise of “courtesy calls” to community leaders in Mali. After one of such courtesy calls on Monday, the troops received a handout of a cow and 50 bags of rice from the Prefect of Tuban in Banamba region. “Our officers and men have resorted to begging locals for cows and rice for survival,” said the official.

56-Year-Old Man Banned From Talking To Women For 10 Years

A s*x pest has been banned from speaking to women for ten years.
David Delahunty, 56, could be jailed just for saying hello to a woman he does not know. A judge imposed the ban after Delahunty admitted s*xual assault. He walked up to a stranger at a bus stop, kissed her on the cheek and told her she was a “bonny lass”.  But he then terrified the woman by making lewd suggestions and falsely claiming he was a defiler who had just been freed from prison.
The victim, in her 20s, was left feeling “disgusted and frightened”, the judge was told. Delahunty, of Carlisle, Cumbria, was given a nine-month suspended jail term and 120 hours’ community work.
